Howdy everyone!!
Woo hoo!!
As I wrote to a few of you this morning, I made my escape from the hospital last night. LOL! Seriously, I just couldnt stand being cooped up any longer so went home for dinner but didnt go back. Called them at 10:00 PM (after the curfew) and told them I wanted to be discharged immediately. Twas fine by them (seeing as how I broke the rules).
Called again this morning to confirm and they told me to come pick up my things and settle the bill.
Woo hoo! Im hoooome!
Only had six more therapy sessions scheduled anyway. Didnt see any need to be cooped up in the hospital for nearly another week for that. And Im paying $148.00 per day co-pay for that (including weekend days). I think I can contract for home therapy for that.
Got to where I couldnt stand eating their bland hospital food anymore. No salt, no pepper, no fat. No taste, but bad taste. Hadnt eaten anything but ice cream, jello and milk for two days and had a terrible tummy ache and a hard knot in my belly. All that went away as soon as I got home and sent Chris out for an order of the most harmful food possible, Chinese. Ate my fill of won ton soup and pork fried rice. Mmmm... mmmm good. And thats when I made the final decision to just stay home.
Its so great to be home.
Thank God Almighty!
Free at last!
Sitting here all morning with tears of joy and gratitude streaming down my face. Slept in my own hospital bed last night, but the mattress is too soft, making it very difficult to sit up and move around. Will start looking today for a firmer mattress. Got up in the middle of the night and crawled back into my new powerchair. It has very comfortable cushions and a power recline feature. Threw a lap blanket over myself, reclined the chair and slept like a baby. Slept in late this morning. Got up and made myself a cup of coffee, (ignoring my FR duties, sorry) went out into my own back yard to enjoy the sunshine and cool morning air and offer thanks to God.
Im so happy to be home. Looking forward to the next phase of life.
Praise God!
Next Ive got to see about getting hand controls installed on my van so I can stay independent. Just cant stand thought of not being able to jump into my van and go somewhere if need be.
With much love and gratitude to you all for your support and prayers.
God bless,
Jim

And I know what you mean by escaped.......Just had Colon cancer surgery and couldn’t find any way to get comfortable.....and, well you know....

Thank you very much, Marcella. No knees. Both legs amputated above the knee. I transfer from bed to chair by waddling like a duck on my stumps. With bed raised slightly higher than chair and chair facing bed and me sitting up on stumps and turned toward chair, I lean as far as I can to one side, then move the opposite stump forward as far as I can (not far at this stage). Then lean the other way and move the opposite stump. After I get all the way on to chair, I turn myself around. Takes me about 5-10 minutes to get completely transferred and ready to go, but I git ‘er done. Will get faster as fresh stump heals and I get stronger. Similar procedure gets me to and from commode or shower bench and hopefully to and from driver’s seat.
A wonderful story, welcome home.
