The House will return to work on Jan. 7 after the Christmas break, giving them seven working days in the new year before government funding runs out again.
There are 16 scheduled days left in the current year, but few expect any measure to extend government funding to get rolling before the House departs for Christmas break on December 13.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the schedule for 2014 on Thursday, which lists 113 working days. The calendar includes the chambers usual August recess and another extended break in October when members traditionally return to their districts to campaign. All members of the House will stand for reelection on Nov. 4.

What do they get paid and what benefits do they receive for working less than 23 weeks out of the year?
Hit piece on Republicans.
The clowns at Pollutico, never removing their noses from Obamugabe’s backside, didn’t make a big deal that the Demonrat senate, led by punk Harry Reid, refused to do their Constitutional duty and pass a budget for THREE YEARS.
Congress shouldn’t be in session more than 90 days per year.
You are a Congressman 24 hours a day, 7 days week, 365 days a year.
I was a District Aide for a Congressman. When they go back to their districts they work harder than they did in Washington. At least mine, a liberal Democrat, did.
On top of that, no matter where you go, people stop you and start talking to you. Even non-constituents outside of your district. There is always a joker who gets your home number and calls you, drunk off his ass, at 2:00am. You are NEVER off the clock.
They should just meet once a year, make a vow to serve the Constitution, and vote to repeal at least ten laws.
Eventually the swamp will be cleared.
I guess they don’t have to be at work to collect all the bribe money from the lobbyists.
They should just meet once a year, make a vow to serve the Constitution, and vote to repeal at least ten laws.
Well said.
Unless those days are spent repealing ObamaCare, cutting the budget well below sequester levels, eliminating cabinet departments such as Education, and repealing bad and unconstitutional laws such as the overwhelming majority of gun laws, those 113 days next year will be wasted.
Maybe next time we write a Constitution, we’ll limit the total number of words that can be law.
To pass a 2000 page law you need to repeal 2000 pages worth of words first!
You are NEVER off the clock.”
Awwwwwww. So sad. Guess they could quit and get a real job.
112 days too many.
They, the Republicans still don’t get it. Even schools operate more days a year.
They should cut it to two 30 day sessions per year. I love a congress that never meets. If they are not in session they cannot think up additonal BS legislation to pass.
Making over 175 Grand plus benefits for part time work, and they don’t have to abide by the laws they pass. What a gig.
The position should be UNPAID. Congress should be in session for 2 weeks a year tops. Pass a budget, and then go home to their real job.
