It might be as simple as money. From the POV of the joint chiefs, the more we retire, the more money left for us.

Obama always blames somebody else but in this instance there is a clear place to point the finger....... the sequester that he developed. It might get resolved in the military’s favor come the budget talks. but that will be the future.

I think you're right. I also think the gov can get online and read blogs and message boards like anybody else. And what they see scares them, and they are preparing for it. They want to rule us like dictators, and much of the population is willing to start shooting over that. They can also take a measure of how much ammo has been procured by citizens in the last five years. And it's an enormous amount. The uprising will be of such proportion, that they will need the military to suppress.
