Former chief financial officer, banker and gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink has been the subject of buzz as a potential candidate for the 13th Congressional District seat that became vacant when longtime U.S. Representative Bill Young died earlier this month.
Now, she's made it official.
Sink's campaign has issued a news release that points to a new website, alexforcongress.com. She's quoted as saying she finds "a deep frustration" with what she calls the "dysfunctional and reckless politics" in Washington. Her release says she's running to "change the way Washington does business."
Sink is one of Florida's few high-profile Democratic politicians. Potential problems include a primary battle with Jessica Ehrlich, who ran against Young last year and has already raised money for a new battle, in anticipation of Young's retirement. Sink may also face criticism because she currently doesn't live in the district. She tells the Tampa Bay Times she's looking for a home there.
It's not clear how many Republicans will end up vying for the seat. Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos, who worked in Young's office for more than 30 years, tells AM Tampa Bay people have been encouraging him to run, but he hasn't made a decision yet. "I'm enjoying being mayor of the city of Clearwater right now," Cretekos tells 970 WFLA.
A special election is expected in March, with party primaries in mid-January.
As a 30+ year resident of Pinellas, this makes me sick. Damn carpetbaggers are NOT welcome here!
....otherwise known as Mrs. Bill McBride....
Yes...the same guy who ran for governor of Florida..
the husband and wife duo who each lost.
she did not change her name until he ran.
She is just looking to fund her lifestyle with a leadership pac.
Who are the declared republicans?
I'd vote for her if I lived there. I mean, after all, who's going to be better at changing the dirty way that Washington does politics than a Democrat?
Jesse Erlich. She announced her candidacy when Rep. Young announced his retirement.
Alex Sink?
Some relative of Bill Clinton?
she is a democrat.
who are the republicans?
They can’t stand being off the public teat.
They keep running until they find a way to get back on the gravy train.
LOL - I get the reference.
This woman cackles....a decent GOP could beat her
Did she get voted out of Hillsborough??
