Two Tea Party groups recently declared war on Republicans who voted to end the government shutdown.
The Tea Party Nation and the Tea Party Leadership Fund want to run Tea Party-approved candidates against sitting Republicans as punishment for being "traitors."
One Tea Party favorite, debunked Christian historian David Barton, is rumored to possibly run against Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), notes Warren Throckmorton at Patheos.org.
A "Draft David Barton for US Senate" Facebook page has been set up and currently boasts 1,445 members.
One pro-Barton advocate claims on his blog that "last week a meeting occurred between Tea Party leaders and a representative for Barton. Sources report both sides left the meeting encouraged. Right now, speculation Barton might run is 'legitimate.'"
Not mentioned by any of his supporters is how Barton's most recent "historical" book Jefferson Lies was pulled by its Christian publisher Thomas Nelson in 2012 for historical inaccuracies, noted NPR.
In addition to his dubious book, Barton has tried to justify the genocide of Native Americans, claimed that atheism, evolution and Darwinism are "religions" and rewritten the words of Jesus Christ to oppose the U.S. tax system.

I think Barton is only “guilty” of doing what the left does shamelessly: they read history in light of their worldview and that of course gives one a perspective.
I think all in all, his tone and take on the history of the Founders is objectively correct.
Of course he is going to get a fact here and there wrong, that is all part of the gig.
But we have to keep in mind that he has been doing this now for twenty or thirty years, basically alone. Not only does he have no collaboration, he has to fend off the left. So perhaps from time to time he has an overreach. That should be expected, and welcomed.
I don’t hear the left being embarrassed the The People’s History of the United States, which is complete balderdash driven by ideology. I don’t think Barton is the equivalent on the right....but I do think he is the equivalent of mainstream historians who have a worldview, and insert it anywhere and everywhere, without disclosure, without apology...and often without even knowing it.
Barton is a huge breathe of fresh air.
Were that there were thousands like him.
The WORLD article - and you - leave out any defence of Barton.

Jay Richards, a philosopher - not an historian of any kind - is a supporter of "the US was not founded on Christianity" Throckmorton who is a troll that writes for salon.com
I love it.
And honestly, I think Rafeal could take it....with ease, really.
With such a claim you can easily cite a source to this, so please provide on. I have already debunked your other posts. Me thinks you are a troll for the Anti-Christian Left; prove me wrong.
.
He is an articulate individual. I believe he’s been a citizen for at least 9 years. He has the courage of his convictions. And by any measure he’s better than the guy who’s in there.
We're on the same page regarding Ted and David, so it seems.
Please tell us, what has he forgotten. I'm sure you have citations to support your claim; I will surely back my arguments with you with plenty of citations.

How about Stovall?
I will vote for STovall if no alternative emerges. So, yes.
Cornyn has had an opponent for a while...

I think it just came across wrong—since Cruz is not a kook, neither is Barton, is what was intended.

Stovall seems perfect but he is not getting traction...
I don’t understand why so many just ignore Stovall. He seems a great candidate to me. But then I’m just a Texan from the oil patch that would send him money and vote for him...
I could find Stovall’s position on pro-choice as a state rights issue, but cannot find a peep about anything at all related to the gay agenda.
Nothing on marriage or gays in the military?
Yes. I think it says he is pretty good at low-key understated sarcasm that is misunderstood by people who appear to spend their time looking for reasons to attack others, instead of trying to understand what they are saying.
Think about it for a minute: Barton is “as kookie as Ted Cruz”...
Isn’t it POSSIBLE that there is more than one way to interpret that statement?
I am personally ambivalent about Barton as a candidate. I do think there should be a better option than Cornyn for Conservatives here in Texas of all places.
I have read several of his books, including the “infamous” Jefferson book, the supposed “debunking”, and his rebuttal. The left has been reimagining American history for a long time. It was nice to see someone attempt to get it right. If anyone needs “debunking” its what is currently being taught in many schools and universities today - pure garbage.
Before you join in the “crucify him” chorus with the insane and irrational left, I suggest you get the Jefferson book and read it for yourself, or any of his work for that matter.
I find it fascinating how much effort the left has put into trying to destroy some historian in Texas, and even more surprised to see it here on FR.
thats correct. it is not that corny has no opponent, per se, it is that he has no opponent of any stature - in such a massive state, i mean.
