Shane Victorino's three-run double broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning and John Lackey allowed one run over 6 and 2/3 innings as the Boston Red Sox wrapped up their eighth World Series title in franchise history and third in 10 seasons with a 6-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The win completed a remarkable turnaround for the Red Sox, who finished last in the American League East with a record of 69-93 in 2012, but won 97 games under first-year manager John Farrell and defeated the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers to reach their first World Series since 2007.

That is been my observation, are there not enough Americans good enough to play ball? Follow the Benjamins. Start out paying less until they are stars and then pay more.
I love Napoli, but I did not want Nobama voters team to win.
New England isn’t totally Red Sox country; VT, CT and western MA have their share of Yankee fans (I’m a Red Sox fan near Boston). “Watch the Yankees here” says the sign outside Donny’s NY Pizza in Winooski, VT; another pizza joint, the NY Pizza Oven in nearby Colchester, is totally Yankees-friendly (pics of teams etc) and radio stations in western and SW
New England carry the Yanks (a couple in upstate NY like
the 980 AM in Troy carry Sox) while others carry Sox.
Yankees radio voice Suzyn Waldman grew up in Newton, MA;
Red Sox radio voice Joe Castiglione grew up in CT—as a Yankees fan—and his son Duke is in the NY media. “Can YOU believe it!”
Mass. was the first state to legalize gay marriage, at least by a court ruling (not through a vote or anything).
Yup Kerry’s full statement was:”Er, Manny Ortez...Manny Ortez, DAVID Ortez”. When asked to name his fave Sox player he said “Ned Yost”. Yost was a Red Sox first or third base coach I believe but as far as I know was not a player. He also spoke once saying the score was “Yankees 2 Red Sox 3”...
Boston outgoing mayor Tom Menino talked about “ionic (sic) moments..Varitek (Vinitieri) splitting the uprights...” (field goal to win Pats’ first Super Bowl). He talked about a “wolling wally” (rolling rally) victory parade that would have “jumbletroms” and “potta potties”. Mispronounced the names of Welker, Gronkowski etc. And he was proud that the Red Sox might win the “World Serious Cup”
When I think “Vermont Yankee” I think of a nuke power plant near Brattleboro.
New Yorkers who came to Vermont:
Gov. Howard “Scream” Dean...who I believe first took office when the Republican Governor (Snelling?) died. One of those states where the Gov and Lt Gov can be of different parties.
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, hippie ice cream mavens who paid $5 for a correspondence course on how to make it
Sen and former Burlington mayor Bernie Sanders (Commie). I still remember driving through the small town of Pawlet VT and hearing an ad on the radio with Sanders’ distinctive Noo Yawk accent: “Hoy! Oym Boynie Sandizz!”
When MLB comes down hard on the juicers, both the Sox and Yankees will have to forfeit the World Series titles that were won with Rodriguez and Ortis.
Take your hatred and misinformation elsewhere. Thank you.
No hatred, I just don’t like cheaters.
But you like to spread lies. Obama could use you.
“The Cards sucked all series. You cant win if you leave everyone on base.”
Not to diminish what Boston did, but you are right. In the playoffs, the Cards did not hit anything since last year against the Giants mid series.
Their bats sucked against the Pirates, Dodgers but one game and again vs Boston. No bats at all, just good pitching.
Amen. You know he wanted to go, but his advisers knew he would be booed.
He got booed on April 20, 2012 with a video message to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Fenway.
The Boston Red Sox are one impressive team. The Cardinals DESERVE TO LOSE FOR INTENTIONALLY KNOCKING HANLEY RAMIREZ OUT OF THEIR SERIES WITH THE DODGERS BY HITTING HIM WITH A PITCH! Cardinals play dirty. Good riddance!
Thanks. They’ve always been my 2nd favorite team, not only because they were such rivals to the Yankees, but their organization was in the same vein as the Cards, kind of a classy blue collar. I was rooting for them to be in the Series, so no matter who won I’d be happy.
The Cardinals are dirty rats. I was so happy to see the pants beat off of them by the Red Sox!
I never saw so much cowardice in one game as shown by the Cardinals pitchers and coach...denying Ortiz the opportunity to hit more runs, not once but 3 times with intentional walks.
The Cardinals should never win another post-season game for all eternity!
A perpetual curse be upon their heads from this day forward. Cardinals suck.
Red Sox rule!
“And here we are in the World Series and one of the sport’s biggest stars, with his own links to performance-enhancing drugs, is having one of the most dominating performances ever.
Oh yeah, and he is 37 years old.
The Red Sox may indeed go on to win the World Series. But when Ortiz lifts up the MVP trophy, all many fans will see is the dark cloud above it.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE.

Um, the substances that Mr. Ortiz tested positive for were, at the time, over-the-counter PEDs that baseball deemed LEGAL. That has since changed as they tighten down on the restrictions, but...
And quoting articles on Yahoo is about a half a step above quoting MSNBC.
Business insider is not Yahoo.
The Cards sucked all series. You cant win if you leave everyone on base.
...they were terrible, in my opinion...only marginally better than they were the last time they played the Sox...what did they score, 2 runs in the last 25 innings or so...and one of them on a solo homer by Halliday...
...they won’t be back next year...way too many outs in the lineup...
Anyone I knew who held season tickets to the Giants or Jets gave them up when the new stadium was built; it was simply the worst timing imaginable...
...sounds like things are pretty grim in Jersey...i grew up in Union County, just north of the Watchung Mountain, a little town called New Providence...it was moderately affluent when I was there, and I understand it still is...
I sent you two articles dunking this yesterday. Believe what you wish. Hate whom you wish. Just leave me out of it. Thank you.
