When I observe the instincts of the animal kingdom and find that the male often kills the offspring of other males. Are Human animals any different? Do we not see an awful lot of “step-fathers” abusing their step children?

No, some men are more than capable of considering their stepchildren their own. All it takes is a capacity for love. Maybe that's what's missing with these people.
