The Website Is Fixable, But Obamacare Isn't
Real Clear Markets ^ | Oct 29, 2013 | Peter Schiff

Put simply the program is built on a mountain of false assumptions and is covered by a terrain of unanticipated incentives. Any cleared-eyed observer should conclude that it is perfectly designed to raise the costs of care and wreck the federal budget. However, like just about every other complicated problem that bedevils the nation, the public has become far too caught up in the politics and has ignored the horrific details.

The real shock of Obamacare is not the unbelievable ineptitude in which it was launched, but the naiveté in which it was designed. The only thing worse than the product launch may be the product itself. But unlike other major entitlements, like Social Security and Medicare, that took years to produce red ink that was far in excess of original assumptions, the financial shortfalls in Obamacare should show up very quickly. Republicans should not miss that opportunity to destroy this monster that threatens us all.

TRUTH IN ADVERTISING AND MARKETING

When consumers see or hear an advertisement, whether it’s on the Internet, radio or television, or anywhere else, federal law says that ad must be truthful, not misleading, and, when appropriate, backed by scientific evidence. The Federal Trade Commission enforces these truth-in-advertising laws, and it applies the same standards no matter where an ad appears – in newspapers and magazines, online, in the mail, or on billboards or buses. The FTC looks especially closely at advertising claims that can affect consumers’ health or their pocketbooks – claims about food, over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, alcohol, and tobacco and on conduct related to high-tech products and the Internet, such as the dissemination of spyware. The FTC also monitors and writes reports about ad industry practices regarding marketing of food, violent movies, music, and electronic games to children.

When the FTC finds a case of FRAUD perpetrated on consumers, the agency files actions in federal district court for immediate and permanent orders to STOP SCAMS; prevent fraudsters from perpetrating scams in the future; freeze their assets; and get compensation for victims.

If this doesn’t apply to Obamacare I don’t know what does.

I should have capped this entire line...

THE FTC LOOKS ESPECIALLY CLOSELY AT ADVERTISING CLAIMS THAT CAN AFFECT CONSUMERS’ HEALTH OR THEIR POCKETBOOKS

Didn’t Obama advertise this as saving us all money, that we could keep our healthcare if we were happy with it, and that all Americans would be healthier and happier?

“If this doesn’t apply to Obamacare I don’t know what does.”

Excellent. And the chief exec says he is STILL selling o care. And proud to do so!?!

I am frustrated beyond belief that no one is taking legal action to shut down something that is so obviously illegal. Where is the Independent IG? Where is Congress? Where are the States? Where are the alphabet agencies we spend so much money for? Where are the fed marshalls? where are the Courts?

How in the name of all that is true and holy, can such abominations STAND?? and be reduced to mere talking points and news headlines??

We are a nation of LAW not of politics and advertisement. We can’t let that go.

Can’t somebody DO SOMETHING rather than talk about it??

I mean I can call my congress-sheeple, but isn’t there something MORE?? WHO is responsible for Constitutional law?? Don’t tell me holder. Congress? can they get a judicial order to shut down something so obviously illegal as collecting people’s private information on an unsecure site??

We the people are the only ones who can do something. Our daily chant shall be “Just Say No!” We have the power of our pocketbooks. The young invincibles will be the beginning...this thing will implode before it ever gets off the ground. The administration knows it which is why we can see and hear their fear in every nonsensical comment made in defense of this monstrosity.

I agree with you.

Pull the Plug (not on people but on the o care disaster of course) is a saying that also comes to mind.

I just would like to see someone say outloud THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES. This travesty cannot, will not stand —

it is illegal — pull the plug on it
the contractors are guilty of malfeasance, stop paying them — pull the plug on it
citizens are putting their personal information into a hackable black hole — pull the plug on it

etc etc

Are there no grown ups left in DC ??

Thanks, servus.

“....but the naiveté in which it was designed.”

.
Wish it were just naiveté.

It was never about healthcare but all about control of one sixth of the American economy and a complete personal data base of the people.

Just imagine what Al-Qaeda and other enemies of America can do with that info.

Obamabots are mentally ill. Here's a comment from a li b site...

"Not an editor, but affected by the change in Gannett benefits and still support the plan...If my family has to forgo insurance for a year or two until the kinks can be worked out it will be well worth it in the long run...We are looking for other affordable alternatives and are disappointed that the congress didn't see fit to deal with the family glitch as it exists, but eventually it will all work out...For now just praying the partner and kid stay healthy."

Freepers, please do me and yourselves a favor. Even though you can not go to the Obamacare website to compare prices please go to your local health insurance company websites to compare their plans. Many are up now. Arm yourself with facts. This “affordable, high quality” health insurance is NOT affordable, it costs an arm and a leg. Learn how the “tax credit” works that can reduce the out of pocket monthly cost for those that earn below the threshold. The premium is still paid to the insurance company but the TAXPAYER makes up the difference between what the premium costs and what the insured pays per month. YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS.

Technically, the website IS fixable. Throw enough money and time at practically anything and it can usually be fixed.

With one big exception, namely LARGE government IT projects. Publications have argued that government IT projects exceeding 30 million in cost fail between 96% and 70% of the time. That’s “fail”, as in NOT fixable, but simply abandoned.

I would be very surprised if oBamKare enrollment is fixed any time during the next 6 months. After all, the prime contractors had an extensive record of failure and were picked because they were buddies of Obama, not because they were competent. Same with the rest of the contractors. It’s not likely these contractors are suddenly going to become competent overnight. Not to mention, the best solution might simply be to start over again, whereas trying to fix the current broken mess may just keep it from ever being fixed.

Exactly!

Security hole found in Obamacare website

http://money.cnn.com/2013/10/29/technology/obamacare-security/

“The Obamacare website has more than annoying bugs. A cybersecurity expert found a way to hack into users’ accounts.

Until the Department of Health fixed the security hole last week, anyone could easily reset your Healthcare.gov password without your knowledge and potentially hijack your account. “

This one was fixed but how many others are still there that haven’t been discovered yet...
