Cruz said in an interview with Fusion that because his mother is an American citizen he is a citizen as well.
"I was a U.S. Citizen by birth and beyond that I'm going to leave it to others to worry about...legal consequences", he said.

“And, just to be fair, Vattel did not use the word natural born. He used the French indigenes native.”
Another excellent point. Vattel, which none of these trolls have read as they have read nothing else presented to them or anything they themselves have presented, did not use the term “natural born”.
BTW, that law was repealed in 1795.
CodeToad, it doesn’t matter. The 1795 law kept the same concept for NBC in its language.
The 95 law was only meant to address the number of immigrants coming in from the French Revolution and a few other places. It was a restriction on those coming in and had nothing to do with the concept of citizenship.
Take a page from your own book. The Naturalization Law does not supersede the NBC requirement of the Constitution.
That’s a definition of a concept, but not of a factual law. Natural law as defined I arguable by people and not codified or subject to court. I sure as Hell wouldn’t want to enter a courtroom and have the government claim I violated a “natural law”.
When someone claims “natural law” as an offense or defense then I want to see it. Natural law is a concept, an abstract, not a concrete statement of applicable law. Hence, it doesn’t exist.
The first definition in Blacks is correct: Natural law, such as gravity.
Wrong!
It it is YOUR “interpretation” after you insert your ideas and twist the words of other people.
You have absolutely no legal training.
It shows.
You have no historical understanding.
It shows.
You have no understanding of basic logic.
It shows.
You have no understanding of the English language.
It shows.
You do NOT have any experts on your side. Besides, the Constitution gives CONGRESS and the States the power to decide eligibility issues. There is NO Court which will ever claim jurisdiction.
Then the first law didn't matter either, did it?
You trolls are arguing what the words natural born citizen means in the Constitution and that law says exactly what they intended as the law was written by those that wrote the Constitution.
LOL....now I'm a troll who's standing up for a long held conviction.
Why don't you peruse my posting history and read what I've been saying all along about Obama and his NBC status?
Then, why don't you ask yourself what kind of person would change his conviction because it is convenient to do so?
Is that the kind of man you would want in a fox hole by your side?
Is calling people who disagree the extent of your conviction and argument?
So, in your twisted mind, the Constitution means whatever YOU claim that it means, even if the rest of us disagree with your very odd interpretation?
You are the one basing your claim on emotion and personal whim. There is no evidence at all to support your view.
I understand and agree with your assertion, that the 1795 law dealt only with immigration, but it did state that the 1790 law was repealed and that included the definition of the NBC. However, the words of the 1790 law state clearly what the writers of the Constitution meant as NBC, and that included foreign born US citizens.
When people talk of natural law they could just as well substitute the phrase, “common sense”, meaning it is common, sensible, and used everywhere. Well, at the time, British law had for years assumed any citizen giving birth would naturally give birth to another citizen.
Either way, NBC is as the 1790 law says, any citizen mother giving birth in a foreign land with a resident US father gives birth to a US citizen.
The definition of “natural born” was given by the Naturalization Law of 1790, and the congressional record shows that the British law of one British parent determining the natural born status of the child born overseas was to be followed.
And, for the record, Vattel was French and did not use the term “natural born”. As a Frenchman he used French, and specifically used the French term: “indigenes” — indigenous — native. Even though there is a French word for “natural” and a French word for “born”, he did not use them together. The naturelle are the indigenes.
Blackstone would come pretty close to describing natural law (and the Declaration of Independence, too); but neither Blackstone nor the DoI were or are in any way binding law. They are historical curios.
The law of 1795 actually clarified what the Founders would accept for born citizenship:
one who by descent was of at least one American parent, and no one who had fought for the British against the US no matter where they were born.
1790 Britannica dictionary:
It' just BS though, words have no meaning anymore.....
NO, NBC is natural, it need no statute by congress or other entity.
The replacement had the same provision relating to birth abroad of citizen parents. The 1795 law was repealed in the early 1800's.
It's called a "naturalization" law too, which suggests that citizenship was conferred by an act of congress (naturalized, as long as the person meets the criteria), rather than "naturally."
Heh. I did LOL when I saw the demand for a showing of the codified book of natural law.
No arguments here ;)
I think most in that era looked to the Bible for their understanding of “endowed by their Creator”.
So, Congress can amend the constitution by redefining "natural born citizen"?
Nevermind ... I guess they can also do that as a matter of accepting any winner of a majority of electoral votes. What Congress giveth, Congress can taketh away.
The media pounds Ted Cruz on this subject, and they pounded McLame on this subject, but never a peep on Obama’s.
“NO, NBC is natural”
Tell that to the ones that wrote the words in the Constitution and then wrote what they meant. I’ll use their definition over yours any day.
