Georgia To Have Pro-Russia President

10/28/2013 8:52 AM ET Georgia's pro-Russia ex-vice premier Giorgi Margvelashvili has claimed victory in Sunday's presidential election, media reports said.

People of the former Soviet republic went to the polls on Sunday to elect a successor to President Mikheil Saakashvili, who had served the maximum two terms in office.

Exit polls by a local TV network show Margvelashvili outdistancing other candidates by nearly 67 percent of the vote. His immediate rival and Saakashvili's nominee David Bakradze has conceded defeat. Margvelashvili thanked supporters on Monday even though the election commission was yet to announce the final results.

Margvelashvili, who had also served as Education Minister, is close to billionaire Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili who has been working to mend ties with Russia.

Outgoing President Saakashvili's anti-Russia and pro-Western stance has been widely criticized and his policies had resulted in a brief 2008 war and a fierce rivalry with Russia.

Observers say the new President is expected to have much less powers because of constitutional amendments that shifted some authority from the President to the Prime Minister. Margvelashvili's victory is expected to put an end to Georgia's confrontational policies with Russia, the reports said.

Bull crap. It is all fair. Anti-Russian president makes as much sense in Georgia as Castro in Cuba. America is so far away and trading with Russia is a rational choice. Not to mention as far as 2007 about 20% of Georgian population were working in Russia illegally.

...And it is good for America too. Georgian president Saakashvili is a Stalinist, a dictator of worst kind and his country is a hub of New World Order. All of this “revolution of roses” is nothing but Caucasian variant of Arab Spring. Look for earlier accounts of his presidency with purging of all Saakashvili’s opponents and confiscating their businesses to remove obstacles to one party state. They were falsely advertised as a “young democracy” getting billions of US taxpayers’ money mostly spend to build enormous military and Potemkin main streets and fancy government offices while the backstreets and the rest of the country are ox and cart.

Agree. Saakashvili is not the kind of friend America needs any more of in the world. But there are those in America, even on here, who will turn a blind eye to his many faults if it means annoying the Russians, Putin in particular, for whatever reason.

Stupid evil thug Putin will continue to support ethnic separatist terrorists against Georgia.

If Georgia was a one-party state then there would never be a peaceful exchange of power as is happening now. Saakashvili is the George Washington of Georgia. He freed his country from tyranny and now has relinquished power. He is everything the stupid terrorist thug Putin is not.

Putin destroyed his own nation's freedom and returned it to tyranny. Putin has imposed one-party rule in Russia and crushed and criminalized all opposition and made himself dictator for life.

Putin is such a stinking piece of garbage that he even threw away his old Christian wife of thirty years and sired a muslim bastard with his muslim Tatar girlfriend.
