a federal immigration officer was shot and three local police officers were wounded . Sounds like a pretty good reason, if the guy in the car was being uncooperative.
I’m curious. In which parallel dimension is it acceptable to put the muzzle of a firearm into someone’s face whom you don’t intend to shoot?
I mean that is basic firearms safety. That is so basic that any ten year old hunter knows it. Why is this cop excepted from common sense?
Oh, mostly using my beloved chainsaw to fell diseased oak trees but also living a homeowner’s nightmare. This house is where things come to break. One appliance after another, one copper pipe after another. I love DIY projects, but this is beyond ridiculous.
Grrrrrrr!
Under mortal threat blood goes to the core, and dangly bits get smaller to protect them from attack.
That is evidence that the cop did not fear for his life.
This would only happen if the cop is excited and showing sexual dominance.
I hope the civilian sues.
We'll see if the evidence stands up in court.
The question alone provides the answer...
Rule #3: Never cover anything you aren’t willing to destroy. This cop was willing to destroy.
We almost got lit up at a checkpoint because we dropped our RF card and both leaned down to get it while rolling forward. We had ANPVS7s on and we saw a whole damn squad "wake up" and paint us with their PEQ4s.
Yeah...I crapped my pants....ain't afraid to admit it.
If I remember correctly, members of the California Highway Patrol were sent to New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina to “help” with the gun grabbing from local citizens.
That was an outrageous act and so is this.
I remember a thread here on FR about a year ago about the cops in Aurora, Colorado looking for a bank robber. It had an image of a young man with his hand up as he exited his vehicle, the barrel of a firearm pointed at his face by one of Aurora’s “finest.”
They closed down a street, and ordered scores of people to get out of their vehicles at gunpoint. Men, women and children had rifles and shotguns pointed at their faces and were forced to sit down on the side of the street. How elderly people were supposed to comply, and disabled younger people, I have no idea.
They caught the bank robber, but I couldn’t help but wonder at what potential cost. Perhaps it’s better to let a criminal escape that terrorize scores of innocent people and endanger their lives.
Relax, that’s nothing compared to when duck season opens.
“The driver has his hands in full view”
AT the time this photo was snapped, yes. We have no idea what went on prior.
All parties involved look to be in a casual attitude, and the cop has the rifle casually pointed at the man's head.
I know several cops, and none of them would train a gun on a person unless that person presents an actual threat, which is as it should be.
“. . . .Presently, the spark shall come.”
Oddly enough, that’s what keeps me going these days.
There are too many abuses of the People, too many insults, too many demands. Do I prefer tyranny and the police state over how lives could be changed from the alternative?
In a word. No.
Sigh. Typo.
Last line should read, “than terrorize scores of innocent people,” not “that.”

Jeepers ... thanks for the ping!
Yep. My point exactly. He was enjoying himself. Either that or he was wearing oddly shaped body armor. He was certainly wearing a vest - the outline is visible.
I remember when the rule of thumb for all military and police was to never point a rifle at something unless you intended to fire it, because if you did aim it and you didn’t, and it was a bad guy, you just made yourself a target to him. Meanwhile, if you aimed it at a friendly, you risked a bad guy shooting both of you and a friendly was placed at risk.
In boot camp, or in a grunt company, it was a good way to earn a week’s worth of EMI.

Believe me. I been in da bayous when the ducks fly. LOL!
I’m probably going to take some flak for saying this, but while the camera angle makes it look like the barrel of the gun is pointed right in the citizen’s face, it may well actually be pointed closer to the left rear tire, or even further away from the vehicle. Such is the nature of such camera shots at times.
I have no idea if anyone else has broached this thought, and I’m too close to hitting the sack to read through a couple hundred posts tonight.
