My back and knees are shot but I get on a treadmill and take it slow with a steep incline. That keeps the “done-lapped” syndrome under control. Glucosomine and Vit E helps with the joint pain.
I also lift which helps the body clean up and use the bad cholesterol.
It’s partly luck and partly that I have always tried to stay active.

(Why do you need a fire extinguisher when you can call the fire department?)

Activity is the key to remaining healthy both physically and mentally. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do SOMETHING!
