TV Actor Robert Brown Accuses Macy’s of Racial Profiling

A black actor on the HBO drama series “Treme” said in a lawsuit on Friday that he wasstopped because of his race while buying sunglasses at Macy’s — the third discrimination allegation made this week by a black shopper against a department store.

Robert Brown, who filed the lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, said he was detained by police at the flagship Herald Square store on June 8 after employees contacted authorities about possible credit card fraud.

He said he was “paraded while handcuffed” through the store to a holding cell, where he was kept for nearly an hour while officers grilled him and searched his bag. His lawsuit said Macy’s employees suggested he couldn’t afford to make such an expensive purchase. He eventually was released without charges.

The department store was profiling Brown because of his race, said his lawsuit, which seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He was on his way to a significant public event, so I doubt that he was unwashed and badly dressed. Can’t you just admit that you were wrong?

This guy is an established actor, starring in a current tv series.

Wow, so you know him. Good for you. I've never heard of him.

That being said, actors don't break the law?

Whatever happened to Winona Ryder? Lindsay Lohan?

All those racists in Manhattan!

Your comparison is a bit stupid. Those actresses were arrested for massive shoplifting. They were caught red-handed with the items on them. The case at Macy’s was about a person paying, and the store deciding that he couldn’t have that much money because he was black. Not even apples and oranges - apples and duck eggs.

Are you out of your mind with racism and envy? There is nothing “pansy-arse” about this actor. He graduated from one of the best colleges in the country and has an established acting career. He was not caught shoplifting, he was paying for items. He is not responsible for what other black people do, just as I, as a white person, am not responsible for your ignorant comments.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

Well, I wish nothing but the best for Mr. Well Known Actor and his never-ending quest for justice.

I hope, having lived through such a senseless tragedy, he can find a way to carry on.

The fact that this happens to so few people tells me that it wasn’t about his race.

It's happened to my step-son twice (back when he dressed like a gang-banger). But, when it happens to whites it doesn't make the national news. That's the key difference.

Yes, it is, because you were concocting a scenario to defend a false position, instead of looking at the facts.

  1. he does look like a pansy
  2. you are correct that he was not detained for shoplifting
  3. but he was detained for suspected credit card fraud
  4. and this could only be because in Macy's experience black people are usually the ones committing the credit card fraud
  5. so he was profiled for this reason
  6. ---
  7. --
  8. and contrary to your rubbish non-logic we are all associated with the group we are from be it good or bad. You can wish this away. You can deny reality but reality will still impact you. Reality does not care about your denials and fantasies. Or mine for that matter.
  9. I have zero envy of him. I never heard of him.
  10. what collage did he gradumacate from? Amherst. OK Good for him

LOL, I don't even know what that means.

But if it makes you feel better about yourself and Mr HBO, I'm glad I could help out.

If shoplifting has a ground zero it has got to be Macy’s Herald Square.

And it's up to Macy's to clear out of the concentrated Democrat parasite nests ("cities") and relocate to safer suburbs.

Unless you were there, you don’t know the facts.

Climb off your high horse. You don’t know anymore than anyone else.

I’m giving the clerk the benefit of the doubt.

1. I don’t think he looks in the least like a pansy - and he certainly doesn’t play one on tv.
2. Thank you for admitting that your examples were fallacious.
3. The detention for credit card fraud was an outrage. He had i.d. to prove who he was.
4. You don’t know that, and it’s not relevant. If more women than men are shoplifters, that’s not a carte blanche to arrest me in a store.
5. Sad that you are fulfilling the liberal stereotype that conservatives are mean-spirited racists.

I read the article, did you?.There was no information in it that justified the arrest.

Just because someone thinks the actor is full of crap on this doesn’t mean they think the arrest, was he actually arrested??, is justified.

It’s an AP article about racial profiling. There is nothing in it to suggest he was not acting suspicious or that there was no legal basis for detaining him. He was being investigated for credit card fraud. Not for trying to buy an item he couldn’t afford.

Do you accept every AP article on its face? Aren’t you the least bit skeptical when you see an article from the MSM on racial profiling?

You are the reality deprived racist. White people are profiled and discriminated against all the time especially white males. Go check out current hiring practices by the Federal Gov’t.

When black people get enough power they profile and discriminate like crazy. When they control a local government like Detroit or even just a school where white students in a minority of say 20% will be endlessly hassled and bullied. This is what goes on in the real world.

In short — black people get profiled. Sometimes this is merited and sometimes not. What you are oblivious to is that profiling (as you might call it) goes on all over the US and all over the world. All the time. Go ask the white farmers in South Africa if they are profiled and then horribly murdered, hacked to death along with their wife. Maybe you will tell me Africa belongs to black people...exclusively

In short— you are full of shyte and see the world via a one way tunnel vision
