These people are ‘Trademark Squatters’. They register a trademark in the hopes of selling to the actual owner for a huge profit............

The name was the University of Miami Redskins in Ohio. Picky bit, but the University of Miami is in Florida. Miami University is in Ohio.
I suggested that when they changed their names from Redskins to Redhawks that they should dump the Miami name (from one of the local tribes and the major river in the area) for Oxford (name of the city they are in) so that the Indian tribe be forgotten completely. No one listened to me. :-(

I'm squatting on washingtonreagans.com, not that they'll ever change the name to it, but I might decide to sell shirts or something in the future. It was $.50 to register it.
It's the real solution to the Washington Redskins problem:
![](http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/8043/ctcm.jpg)
It's a universally appealing solution!
The conservative case:
Naming a professional sports franchise after somebody is an honor worthy of Ronald Reagan because of his great accomplishments, including, but not limited to:
- Helped bring about the collapse of the Soviet Union.
- Ousted the Jimmy Carter Administration.
- Restored United States military dominance and prestige.
- Restored the American economy to a globally dominant position.
The liberal case:
Naming a professional sports franchise after a person is a horrendous and dishonorable insult to their legacy, a fate Ronald Reagan deserves because of the horrible things he did, including, but not limited to:
- Helped bring about the collapse of the Soviet Union.
- Ousted the Jimmy Carter Administration.
- Restored United States military dominance and prestige.
- Restored the American economy to a globally dominant position.
A city named after a great president deserves a football team named after a great president.

They don’t even play in Washington DC.
“Beltway Braves” is probably a more accurate/descriptive moniker - IF they decide to make the mistake of changing it at all.

Washington Red Guards

Sure, but it seems pretty dumb to do that before anyone has chosen to use the name. Who is going to go with “Washington Redhawks” if they see it is already trademarked? They’ll just pick something else.
To: dead
Not to mention that Ronnie starred in one of the great football films of all time, so there is at least a small connection to the sport.
To: Boogieman
Excellent point.
And their secondary can be collectively nicknamed Star Wars, because they intercept bombs.
