President Barack Obama--who oversees both the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security--said in a speech at the White House on Thursday that it does not make sense to have 11 million people in the United States illegally.
The president said these people need an incentive to stay here in the United States and become what he called legalized citizens.
It doesnt make sense to have 11 million people who are in this country illegally without any incentive or any way for them to come out of the shadows, get right with the law, meet their responsibilities and permit their families then to move ahead, he said. Its not smart. Its not fair. It doesnt make sense.
Obama reiterated his request that the Republican-controlled Congress pass the immigration reform bill that has already been approved by the Senate.
It would make sure that everybody plays by the same rules by providing a pathway to earned citizenship for those who are here illegally, said Obama.
So this isnt just the right thing to do; its the smart thing to do, said Obama. Securing our borders; modernizing our legal immigration system; providing a pathway to earned, legalized citizenship; growing our economy; strengthening our middle class; reducing our deficits--thats what common-sense immigration reform will do.
Article 2, Section 3 of the Constitution mandates that the president shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.
A page on the White House website that explains the administration's understanding of the power of the Executive Branch says: "The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress."
In his White House speech on Thursday, the president did not say how he knew that "in the shadows" there were 11 million people who are in this country illegally.
Agreed. It doesn't make sense. They shouldn't be here illegally.
And, since it's YOUR job to make them leave, why don't you start making them leave?.
He has no intention of securing our borders, except to make it tougher for Americans who want to leave.
When we are bleeding jobs like at no time in history, what is the crying need for legalizing 20 million illegals?
Obama is often right for the wrong reasons. He is a propagandist.
The numbers are wrong, to begin with.
This push is related to the failure of Obamacare and it’s about money.
Anyone duped by this is a fool. The USCCB (the American Bishops group) is woefully uninformed about the extent of the truth of this, and must stay out of it, but they’re in it, led by a group of Mexican immigrant Bishops who have NNNOOO! business involving themselves in Any country’s politics.
Agreed, get em outta here. Send them to China.
When they can protest openly, on the National Mall, they aren’t in the shadows.
Yeah, how about some incentives NOT TO BE HERE ILLEGALLY?
Of course, with the Obamaconomy, that’s been happening anyway.
I agree. He is trying to change the subject (and the GOP will try to help him). If we start shouting about immigration, it takes the failure of obamacare off the front pages and the front burner.

Heck zer0, I know you and your crowd want the rest of ‘em here!
No. I think it comes from a different direction.
Please, please tell me this is satire.
go to walmart on the 1st or 15th of every month....start asking people if the speak english.
if they give you the deer in the headlights look, ask for some proof of citizenship.
identify “day labor” areas....ask the same questions....word will get around and the problem will begin to self correct.
You're exactly right...0bummer has made that fiasco possible because of him ignoring immigration laws since he took office and forcing policies on BP, ICE and other law enforcement regarding those laws.
It makes absolutely no sense at all-so let us see la migra do their job and escort as many of them as can be found back home in one of those green vans...
Maybe we should offer a reward for the reporting and deportation of illegal aliens?
Go Capitalism!
Hmmmmm. I thought immigration law, WAS settled law!
