The story is sweeping the Internet: President Barack Obama is trying to emasculate male Marines by making them wear a girly cover with their famed dress uniforms. The only problem? It’s not true.
First, some background: Men and women in the Marine Corps currently wear different types of covers as part of their dress and service uniforms. The manufacturer of the women’s “bucket cover” – which has a distinctly different shape than the men’s cover – is going out of business and will not continue to make the cap, according to the Marine Corps.
The Marine Corps also has been asked by the DoD to find a unisex option for a dress and service cover, Marines said.
So, the Marine Corps Uniform Board, which meets quarterly, decided to gather feedback in advance of its meeting next week. Active and Reserve Marines were asked to vote on whether they believe women should adopt the current male cover, with some small modifications, or for all Marines to adopt what they call the Dan Daly cap.
Sgt. Maj. Dan Daly, a two-time Medal of Honor recipient who yelled, “Come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?” as he led Marines into the fight at Belleau Wood during World War I, wore a cap similar to the option proposed by the survey.
The Marine Corps Uniform Board will use the surveys to formulate a recommendation, though popularity isn’t the only consideration -- as evidenced by the strong negative reaction to the recent decision to keep camouflage utility sleeves rolled down all year.
Commandant Gen. James Amos must approve any uniform board recommendation before it takes effect.
In an email, Marine Corps officials said there is no truth to reports that President Obama is behind the potential change.
“The president in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover,” according to the Marine Corps statement. “We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: The former manufacturer went out of business. … The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.”
The gay uniforms are right around the corner too.
Having seen various uniform boards come and go...the truth is that the old guard of each service...run the board (not political figures or the President). Unless you can get a four-star to come out and demand a change...the old guard on the board keep things generally moving forward...changing little unless necessary.
For those remember the Air Force period of the early 1990s....the Generals got into the mess...demanded a dozen major changes, and almost all were undone within three years.
I could bring up the Air Force ‘ice cream’ suit for field-grade officers. My boss at the time had 27 years in and wanted a parade at the unit for his retirement. The wing commander agreed, but stipulated sixty days before the event....that this retiring Colonel had to buy the ice cream suit as part of the parade deal. As I remember it...total cost for shoes, hat and suit came just over $1,000...and the Colonel never wore it again.
So the Obama imposed depression is putting 'em out of business.
I wonder if the new Obama available unisex covers will be pink?
As a four star Marine general I bet it is the most miserable experience on this planet to receive a call from el Douche Bag and be dressed down or even worse one of his underlings like Carney or Jarrett.
So, basically they are saying the reports of DOD preparing to force the “Girly Hat” on male Marines is true.
They just deny the part about Teflon Obama giving the direct order.

And here it is...
Direct orders are not necessary. All you need to act is a sense that “this is what the boss wants”. Those desires filter down through any organization and don’t need to be in writing.

A word to the wise is sufficient. At this point Obama’s position is “evolving” as it did with same sex marriage.
Seriously, the reaction must have been horrific as far as the powers that be are concerned.
