LA Judge Charged With Battery In Dispute With Woman Over Dog Waste

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has been charged with battery after getting into a dispute with a woman over a bag of dog waste.

Connie Romero, 51, was walking her dogs outside the Chatsworth home of Judge Craig Richman July 18 when she said she bagged up some of the dog excrement and placed it on the curb.

She said she intended to pick up the waste on her way back from her walk.

Richman, however, pulled up to his house.

“He advises her, ‘You’re leaving this dog excrement. Could you please pick it up?’ At that time, she says some vulgar things to him,” said James Blatt, Richman’s attorney.

Romero said she flung the bag into Richman’s car during an argument with the judge about how to dispose of the waste.

“I was responding to what he wanted me to do. I picked it up and I asked him, ‘You throw it away,’” she said.

“I would say she’s not off to a good start with throwing dog excrement into someone’s car,” said Blatt.

Romero claims she tried to walk away from the yelling match with Richman.

“I turned my back, and then he placed both of his hands, and then shoved me,” she said.

In a statement, the city attorney’s office, which charged the judge with one misdemeanor count of battery, said, “The defendant allegedly pushed her from behind, causing her to fall to the ground, allegedly striking her face on the sidewalk… and was later treated for injuries.”

“My ear…I end up with the headaches. I have big pain here,” said Romero.

Richman is expected in court Nov. 6. His attorney will try to get the battery charge dropped.

She said she intended to pick up the waste on her way back from her walk.

Sure she did. If he did it I'd give him a medal. Maybe with oak leaf cluster if he'd shoved her face in it.

Agreed. UNLESS HE STUPIDLY OPENED HIS MOUTH TO THE COPS AND IMPLICATED HIMSELF.

I always pick up after my dog, and the bag goes in my pocket. It helps that he is not a very big dog (Pembroke Welsh Corgi). I’d hate to pick up after a collie or a lab. However, I would not get into an argument or shoving match with anyone over this kind of thing either.

Would smash out Hizzoner's windshield.

If the DA presses this he needs a trial by jury. Given this set of facts, that she threw feces in his car, I would not convict him if he had set her on fire.

Really...why would she go to the trouble of picking it up if she was just going to leave it. I guess you might be right but it seems odd. On the other hand I can believe that a judge...used to haveing his ass kissed all day would think he could go ahead and administer the punishment on the spot!!!

I know a lot of dog walkers that do this. They don’t want to carry smelly poo on the whole walk. They always pick it up when they go by. I don’t do it because I’m always afraid I’ll forget it on the way back. We even have a neighborhood poo trash can.

There are some truly nasty people out there. They should not live in neighborhoods with other people.

Personally, I’m appalled that everyone here can’t focus on the “judge” that thought he could get away with assaulting a woman.

This is elitist BS, pure & simple. Get off the doggie poo train; most of you commenting against the woman obviously don’t have dogs but certainly have an opinion chute.

Way beyond assault.

In California, battery is a lose your license felony for any professional.

obviously don’t have dogs

Yes you're right. You have to be a dog owner to understand throwing a bag full of dog squeeze into someone's car is not an assault, but a perfectly normal reaction to being criticized for crapping your dog on someone else's property and leaving it behind.
