In the October 12 article, "Nightmare in Maryville: Teens sexual encounter ignites a firestorm against family," Kansas City Star reporter Dugan Arnett told the story of Melinda Coleman. According to the article, Coleman's daughter Daisy was raped at the hands of Matt Barnett, grandson of Rex Barnett, an influential Republican and former state legislator.
Allegedly, because of that political power, not only were the charges against Barnett dropped, but the Colemans were targeted and harassed. The article also suggests Melinda was fired from her job at Southpaws Vet Clinic because she dared to cross the Barnetts.
However, according to Dr. Sally Hayse, part of the story has been omitted.
In an exclusive interview with Dr. Sally Hayse, she said Melinda Coleman wasn't a full time employee of Southpaws. She'd only worked there a total of three half days, for a total of 5 1/2 hours.
"We were trying her out as a part time employee," Hayse said, "I was thinking about hiring her because I knew her on a friendly basis."
According to records obtained by The Torch, Coleman was scheduled to work on January 3, January 5 and January 6, all half days.
Here are exclusive photos of Hayse's 2012 calendar, showing the days Coleman worked at the clinic.

That seals it, drop the charges and move on
Are they saying because she had a bad work attitude she wasn’t raped?
Melinda Coleman wasn’t raped. Allegedly, her daughter was.
She’s saying she was fired from her job at the vet clinic because of political pressure. But she only worked at the vet clinic for a total of 5 1/2 hours and her last day there was the day before the rape.
I think the point is that the mother of the victim is claiming she was fired from her job because she took action against the [Republican] perpetrator, but the actualities indicate she only held the job she claimed to have been fired from for a few hours, and that she had been fired from another job [”not invited to return”] during the same time frame.
Maybe the charges were dropped because the law decided there was no rape case. It happens frequently.
The charges were dropped because they were without foundation.
It turns out that liberal women looking for a payday will lie about anything.
From reading the whole story, it does sound like the Colemans are trash.
If the girl was 14...that is statutory rape....she is too young to consent...and that law is law in every state
Most states also charge underage with stat rape....so this 17 year old can be convicted of rape.
Also....there was alcohol involved. Both legally cannot drink
Sounds like there is a lot of political BS covering up for this boy. If I was this girls father I would have cut this boys sack off....his political daddy cant buy his way out of that one....
Some of the folks on here sound like Todd Akin in that interview.
What?? BILL KLINTON??
Nonsense, there was clear proof sex took place and clear proof she was drunken and impaired. Also statements made that she was crying immediately after the sex took place.
The vet issue is completely separate from the rape issue.
Matthew Barnett was a cocky punk who went too far and has skated so far.
The girl’s father was killed in a car accident a few years ago.
IIRC In Missouri if somebody you are over 18 but under 21, the age of consent is 14. If over 21, the age of consent is 17.
What about the homeowners where the rape/consensual sex happened? Where were they at 1am?
If I were Mrs. Coleman, I would own the property and everything else, after I got done sueing them.
From reading the whole story, sounds like they were targeted for reporting a rape, and then their vacant home was burned down
By them?
So Melinda Coleman lied —
Her daughter has alcohol stashed in her closet, drinks it and climbs out the window at midnight after texting the boys.
Where was mom???? Where is your responsibility, mom???
