Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.) on Tuesday said a joke Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made about the ObamaCare website was calculated to appeal to "backward people" who believe President Obama was born outside the United States.
At a rally in Houston on Monday, Cruz took a jab at the problems that have plagued the federal online healthcare enrollment site.
"You may have noticed that all the Nigerian email scammers have become a lot less active lately," Cruz said. "They all have been hired to run the ObamaCare website."
Speaking on MSNBCs "The Ed Show," Cartwright said Cruz was sending a subtle message to the crowd.
Jokes about Nigerian scammers, you know, I wonder how much off the cuff that really was, and how calculated it was to appeal to Sen. Cruzs base, many of whom believe that the president is from Africa, he said.
Cartwright was pressed by the host on whether he believed Republicans were seeking to inflame racial tensions.
I dont know that theyre doing that but I will say that I suspect it, he said. And whether theyre doing it on purpose, it does appeal to the people who think that way.
"There are, you know, a lot of fairly backward people that are a part of the base of people like Sen. Cruz. And comments like that just are right up their alley.
Getting down with the "backward" people when running for election.
Ah, the Morning Schmo.
Hmmmm ..?? Two questions.
Didn’t Obama ever sue the paper for saying he was from Kenya ..?? If not, then he must not have cared that they printed a “lie” ..?? Of course, you don’t have to be BORN in the USA to hold public office .. EXCEPT for the Presidency.
Secondly, notice the reason Jack Ryan dropped out of the race .. because Obama found dirt on him (by illegally getting possession of a copy of Ryan’s divorce papers) and that’s what Obama used to marginalize his opponent.
Actually, I believe that method is what “O” always uses to marginalize his opponents. He doesn’t debate or negotiate, he just uses illegal tactics to keep from answering for his actions.
Rep. Cartwright -
That’s a long way to go to play the race card.
Backward people?
And here I’ve just gotten used to bein’ a bitter clinger.
From Africa, like Obama’s book said he was for many years?
With Obama you never know which lie you are supposed to believe.
You’re referring to CGI, which received a contract for $88 million, out of the total $394 million (plus) cost. See the article at the site below for more.
“Obamacare website: 6 biggest contractors”

I support a 100% tax on any Representative, Executive, or Senator who voted for Obamacare.
No Cartright he was talking about low information voters. Let me make it simpler. YOU, YOU RETARD!
He didn’t sue because:
A. He lied about being born in Kenya
or
B. He was born in Kenya.
I’m the same exact age as him. I was born in New York my mother was born in Scotland. In my entire life not ONCE has anyone made the mistake of thinking I was born in Scotland. Yet here we have all these examples of people saying Obama was born in Kenya. Why? Because HE said he was born in Kenya! Why would these people say Kenya if they made a mistake? Why not Chad or Sudan or Algeria or some other African country? They all say Kenya because HE said he was born in Kenya so either way he is lying. If he wasn’t born in Kenya then he was lying to all these people. If he was born in Kenya then we have the greatest scam ever pulled in US politics.
I totally agree with you.
And .. I have said for a long time that the reason Kenya is linked to him is because he possibly used it on paperwork to get FREE COLLEGE MONEY as a “foreign” student.
Which might account for his hiding of his school records.
A different slant - Bumper Sticker:
Obama’s Dog ate his Birth Certificate, then Obama are his Dog.
I don’t think it was as much free money as a foreign student, as it was the fact that as a foreigner, his terrible academic performance wouldn’t be an issue.
If he was Barry the Hawaiian choom-gang low performer, he would never have been admitted. As a poor little African boy, he sails right in.
The joke gets funnier every time I hear it. We could use a little levity, after years and years of being assaulted non-stop by the regime.
Democrats are hearing dog whistles again.
Yep exactly, and from College he just kept it up saying he was born in Kenya, maybe because it helped him in politics with black voters or he really was born in Kenya. I tend to believe he really was born in Kenya because a lot of black voters don’t like foreigners and saying he was born in Kenya really wouldn’t have helped him which leaves the only reason left: He said he was born in Kenya because he WAS born in Kenya.
These politicians in Washington know this, but they refuse to do anything about it because they’re pussies, they think they will be tagged as being racist so as a result what we got here in the White house could very well be an enemy foreign agent. Remember what Bush said? “Terrorism will get us where we least expect it” What could be more unlikely than the White house itself? Al-Qaeda only wishes they could do the kind of damage to the US that Obama has done.
Well, you may be right about the foreigner thing, but as a foreign student, some colleges have them so they can claim “diversity”. And .. some foreign students get everything; housing, food coupons; transportation, etc.
“O” is so lazy .. he probably went for the schools who would give him the most STUFF.
However, I don’t think “O” expected as much push back as he’s getting (and I wish it was more). I think he believed he could ride in here and just change everything and we wouldn’t do anything to stop him. I also think his attitude has been created from the fact that we’re not bowing down and letting him carve up this country.
