Two Sonoma County deputies on patrol saw the boy walking with what appeared to be a high-powered weapon Tuesday afternoon in Santa Rosa, sheriff's Lt. Dennis O'Leary said.
The replica gun resembled an AK-47 with a black magazine cartridge and brown butt, according to a photograph released by the sheriff's office. Deputies would only learn after the shooting that it wasn't an actual firearm, according to O'Leary.
After spotting the boy, the deputies called for backup and repeatedly ordered him to drop the gun, O'Leary said in a news release. It wasn't clear whether he pointed the replica assault rifle at the deputies or made any type of threatening gesture. The sheriff's office referred calls to the Santa Rosa Police Department, which did not immediately return a call for comment.
O'Leary said the deputies fired several rounds from their handguns immediately after issuing the orders to drop the rifle.
"First, I heard a single siren and within seconds I heard seven shots go off, sounded like a nail gun, is what I thought it was," he said.
The boy fell to the ground on top of the rifle, according to O'Leary. He said the deputies ordered him to move away before approaching him and putting him in handcuffs.
They began administering first aid and called for paramedics, who pronounced him dead at the scene. Deputies also found a plastic handgun in the boy's waistband, O'Leary said. The deputies, who have not been identified, have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard after a shooting, O'Leary said.
The family was back at their mobile home Tuesday night after identifying the boy's body
The newspaper quoted the boy's mother, Sujey Annel Cruz Cazarez, as saying, ""Why did they kill him? Why?"

The day is young.
Can’t to see the dash cams....
My bet it was under 5 seconds from “drop the weapon” to filling the child with holes...
Absolutely wrong.
There exists all the facts we need to know. The police showed up to a scene with a badge and REAL guns and killed an unarmed boy. It's the responsibility of the police to determine if any real threat exists.
If the Police show up and shoot an innocent person it's the fault of the police. No other facts need to be determined.
Did the guns have orange tips? Or did the kids use markers to make them black like we used to do?
See! He really WAS dangerous. /s
I thought that all toy guns had to have an orange plastic tip on them. I’ve not seen a toy rifle that HASN’T had one in years. Even the pistols that shoot suction cups are all orange. Not just the tips.
No other facts need to be determined.

You’re going by one internet news report and you own prejudices against cops. Or were you actually there?
“No other facts...??” Well gee. Why not you and that clown upthread go and kill every member of the police department then for what they did.
Then the gangbangers started painting the tip of their guns orange and it brought everything back to square 1.
So common procedure now shoot first ask questions later.
I respect the police but some of the Sonoma county sheriffs are real yahoos.
Oh Good, the Bay Area Commies dropped another Evil Miscreant.
The cops here aren’t much different then their Bolshevik Masters.
The kid probably was an illegal and didn’t speak English. Sonoma County has tons of them. They’re the majority in the schools there now.
What a bunch of trigger happy thugs. I gotta tell my kid to stay off the street with his Nerf guns, god knows what these idiots would do.

California Sheriff’s Deputies Shoot, Kill 13-Year-Old
This is what happpens when Obummer arms and trains moslem terrorists to kill kids and trains the local cops to kill children they are supposed to be defending.
“What`s the difference?”
If the facts are as presented here, the cops appear to be in the wrong. Just use logic. Why would someone (especially someone obviously juvenile) intending to do harm blithely walk down the sidewalk with an AR-15? No reports of shots fired, no reports of a kid causing damage,. no reports of an argument or shouting or other disturbances, the cops just happened to roll up on a kid walking down the sidewalk with what appeared to be a weapon. They were behind the cover of their squad car, the kid was standing/walking on the sidewalk.
Seriously think about how it went down. The cops seriously thought were “lucky” enough to roll up on a potential massacre just before it was about to happen? But they had time to call for and wait for backup. That’s enough time to survey the scene and think about the strangeness of the circumstance they were in. What happened during that time that led them to believe they or someone else was in immediate danger?
Im sure his older brother will have weed in his room, therfore, its a good shoot in their eyes . . .
Well, that answered tons of questions going through my mind...
In todays social and political atmosphere, I would never allow a child of any age out in public with a replica firearm of any kind. Period.
World class stupidity.
No further comment.
They show a picture of the weapon, I would bet they removed the orange tip. Also there is no indication of size. The toy is not full size. The AK-47 toy is 26 inches long and real one is over a half of foot longer. But does the above look like this? They really can't tell the difference between plastic and metal. Or what a toy looks like compared to the real thing?
Here is what happened.

Depressing commentary.
Agreed.
But until we find a way to reverse the wannabe loud fascists among us, real fascism, not the hippy kind, we need to adapt to the reality. Getting shot by cops is more common and likely today than being shot by criminals.
Aside from the gang culture, that is.
Nor me....and I was one for 30 years.

High Fives all around. It is an easy way to get an extra paid vacation. That has to be part of the motivation for these things.
You know that permission would be automatically given. These fellows need their vacation time.
