A 24-year-old Danvers High School teacher has been found dead, and a 14-year-old boy is being held without bail on a charge of murdering her.
Math teacher Colleen Ritzers body was found in the woods behind the school, said Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
Philip D. Chism was ordered held without bail at his arraignment this afternoon in Salem District Court. Judge Matthew Nestor approved funds for a mental competency evaluation. Chism is to be tried as an adult; a probable cause hearing was slated for Nov. 22.
Chism had been reported missing Tuesday after he did not return home from school. Ritzer was reported missing at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when she did not return home and did not answer her cellphone.
Police searched the school and found blood in a second-floor bathroom. Ritzers body was found later behind the school, Blodgett said in a news conference this morning at the high school.

The Daily Mail UK has lots of photos of the perp, his mother and the victim.
“How is a juvy being pictured and named?”
Was charged as an adult.
Dedicated young teachers often hang late.
I know I was a PT night janitor in a local school.
They would too often NOT notify you of there presence and freak you out when you entered spaces.
A candlelight vigil will be held this evening...a Red England tradition. They SHOULD be building a gallows in the school parking lot, but that would be ‘insensitive’.
I was 5' 11" at 14. Stopped at 6' 2" at age 22. Now I'm back to 6' 1" at 40-something-or-other...
The circumstances indicate he could have been stalking her. I’m guessing there will be some revelations of sexual assault.
He wasn’t at practice at 4. Assuming something was happening at that time, how did he get her out of the school without anyone seeing? Here, our high school is full of kids until about 9 pm due to after school practices, clubs, study hall, detention and kids just hanging out.
Daily Mail has other pictures of him and he sure looks older than 14 in those.
Another black on white hate crime, the war on whites is in full swing, when will whites join the party?
Hmm, did the police know something since you can't file a missing person's report for 48 hours.
He just moved here
Wonder what his record shows at his old school and why did he leave?
All public schools in Danvers were closed today.
Was this closure already on the school calendar or due to his trial and if so why?
trivial point
Forgot to add that he was at a movie theater shortly thereafter. Calm, cool and collected I bet.
It doesn't say she was there at night. He didn't show up for soccer practice at 4 and wasn't at the players' dinner at 6. He was at a movie theater at 6:30 but didn't go home that evening. Seems likely the murder happened before 4.
Odd that the police jumped on this missing person case so quickly and that she was found immediately. Unless the school custodians reported the blood moments before her family reported her missing. Not that any story has mentioned custodians but where were they in their cleaning schedule for him to have found a trash bin to wheel her outside with? Someone saw something.
He has a white mama, too.
“Update: Danvers High School math teacher Colleen Ritzer, 24, of Andover, was stabbed to death sometime Tuesday night. Her body was later discovered in the woods near the school.”
From Post 27
Officials said Massachusetts law prevented them from describing the relationship between Ritzer and Philip Chism, the 14-year-old student, accused of killing her in a second-floor bathroom and then dragging her body into the woods.
“She was just a young, caring girl who had whole world ahead of her. To be taken so tragically, it’s awful, said Ritzer’s uncle Peter Martellucci.
THE MURDER WEAPON WAS A KNIFE NOT A GUN!!!!!!!
"Prosecutors allege the teen, who was a transfer student to the school, stabbed Ritzer and then dumped her body in the woods behind the campus. "
