Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said today the U.S. and the rest of the democratic world is at a security crossroads in the wake of last month’s deadly al-Shabab attack at a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya – and suggested an answer could be in arming civilians.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Noble said there are really only two choices for protecting open societies from attacks like the one on Westgate mall where so-called “soft targets” are hit: either create secure perimeters around the locations or allow civilians to carry their own guns to protect themselves.

In the interview with ABC News, Noble was more blunt and directed his comments to his home country.
“Ask yourself: If that was Denver, Col., if that was Texas, would those guys have been able to spend hours, days, shooting people randomly?” Noble said, referring to states with pro-gun traditions. “What I’m saying is it makes police around the world question their views on gun control. It makes citizens question their views on gun control. You have to ask yourself, ‘Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?’ This is something that has to be discussed.”

Nobel must have come a long way since his Waco days.
Despite the Duh! factor, Mr. Noble has my attention. I think, and I say that with the realization that it doesn’t mean that I’m smart, that he might realize that when you’re under attack, it’s a good idea to arm everyone, meaning mom, pop, grandpa, auntie, the cousins, the neighbors, friends, acquantenances, strangers you know, strangers you kinda don’t know, passersby, pedestrians and crossing guards with weaponry.
What say you?

I’m in upstate NY and it wouldn’t have happened here.
I heard every one of the thousands of shots when Whitman was on the Tower. It took only minutes for civilians to pull out their rifles and start firing back at him forcing him to stay away from the three shooting ports (drains) on all 4 sides and saving lives.
In contrast, at Lubys, decades later, and in a gun free zone, the lambs being slaughtered had to wait for the cops to show up.
There is no question that return fire kept Whitman away from the shooting ports and unable to fire. And, Austin cops back then had no long range rifles. So, the Interpol officer is spot on correct.
In today’s world, the most dangerous place on earth is a gun free zone.

Many of us will arm-up even further, willingly; many won’t touch a firearm. Take a guess at the results of that.

You are exactly right—but east of the Tappen Zee bridge its criminal-friendly till you reach Long Island.
Never let up the pressure to repeal that “safe” act. Of course, it DID ensure that Cuomo has little hope of a national political future. Ironic that Cuomo thought it would get him on the 2016 presidential ticket.
