President Barack Obama didn't know about the problems with the Affordable Care Act's website -- despite complaints from insurance companies and the site's crashing during a test run -- until days into its now well-documented abysmal launch, the nation's health chief told CNN on Tuesday.
In an exclusive interview with CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius admitted Tuesday that there is significant concern in her department and the White House over the technical debacle surrounding the Obamacare website's rollout. The site was supposed to make it simple for people to search and sign-up for new health care policies starting on October 1, but instead it's been clunky and, at times, inoperable.
"We're not at all satisfied with the workings of the website," Sebelius said. "We want it to be smooth and easy and let consumers' compare plans."
She noted how Tuesday, a team of high-tech experts from within the government and from Silicon Valley, and led by Jeff Zients -- a former CEO and acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, who will oversee the process for the next few months -- are coming in to address the issues.
Why weren't they brought in before the website launched October 1?
"We have hoped that they had their 'A-Team' on the table," Sebelius said in response. As to now, "We want new eyes and ears. We want to make sure that we get all the questions on the table, that we get all the answers and accelerator the fix as quickly as possible."

L.I.P (low information President)
Insurance chiefs? What are they going to say; “We’re waiting. We’ve had our websites up for years. When ever you’re ready.”
No doubt. 0bama probably thinks Harry Truman had a thing for male deer.
That way they can't be called to account. There's no such word. They never said they would accelerate.
Right, she didn’t tell Obama ...
She woulda been sh*t-canned down the road by his boot in a heart beat if she didn’t tell him. He woulda been pissed that she made him look like a jackass ...
He knew, because she told him - he just hoped it wouldn’t be a catastrophe.
Now, she’s just trying to protect her boss ...
I would agree...it’s the biggest project management failure of the past decade. The $400 million? Flushed entirely...nothing to show for it, and very likely can only be replaced in 2014 by another $400 million software platform.
I would say this. If you had defined health care requirements in one simple eight-line statement, and then hired one project manager (some guy from Boise), and then gave him twenty IT tech’s to create the platform....preventing the White House from continually changing the platform or requirements...and then aimed at version one (relying on yearly version updates instead), then this thing would have been ready for beta-testing in six months, and released at the tenth month as operational.
Clearly, no understanding of what it takes for project management or building software platforms....just users who pretend they are project-savey or IT-savey. Wannabe software bridge builders.....building a bridge to nowhere.
IMNSHO, this is what it was designed to do...GET ALL your information, and give NOTHING back in return.
Covering for an incompetent and hateful goon is what criminals in government are all about. Impeach, remove and jail is their just reward.
Only two reasons not to tell the boss: You think he’s incompetent and will botch it up or to protect him from the scandal.
Either one is a fireable offense and he’s responsible anyway.
Why do I suddenly have this visual of Scarlett O’Hara, with Atlanta burning behind her - desperate to get back to Tara - beating on the old nag who is pulling the wagon, only to have it collapse and die?
I think Pelosi is already playing that role...Just fix it! JUST FIX IT!!!!.
Just give me that mallet she carried...just one time...
