A poll released Tuesday suggests Democrat Terry McAuliffe has pulled away in the campaign for Virginia governor, opening a 17-point lead against Republican Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II two weeks from Election Day.
The poll, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, has Mr. McAuliffe ahead 50-33 by far the largest margin of any poll thus far in the race.
The survey of 1,000 likely voters has a 3 percentage point margin of error. It was conducted Sunday, a day after former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton campaigned with Mr. McAuliffe in Falls Church.
The results come after Rasmussen last month had Mr. McAuliffe with a 6 percentage point lead, 44 percent to 38 percent, over Mr. Cuccinelli. That poll was conducted before the two-week federal government shutdown, which other surveys have suggested had a disproportionately negative effect on Republicans.

He is losing because VA is a purple state trending blue. We are outnumbered by the liberals—simple as that. And it doesn’t help that the RINOs led by Bill Bolling are trashing Cuccinelli. A true conservative will have a very difficult time ever winning a statewide race in VA.
Virginia turns permanently rat? Next: Florida. then: Texas....
I’m afraid your right in Texas.
No one knows the Republican candidate for Governor except political junkies.
Never trust “The New Rasmussen.” Scott sold out and I think he must have taken “his secret sauce” with him.
Immigration and domestic migration from the Northeast have changed the demographics of VA. It will be solid blue within a decade.
Time for more of Virginia to secede and make West Virginia bigger?
Why in the hell did Cuccinelli hire David Rexrode as campaign manager (worked for McCain) and Matt Rhoades for opposition research (Drudge BFF who was Romney’s campaign manager)? They’re both proven failures who hate grassroots conservatives.
I sincerely hope and pray that this poll is very wrong, beccause it would be a grave sin to elect McCauliffe.
Voters love candidates with damaging personal information. It makes them “humannnnnnnn”. We are almost a one party nation at this point. The liberals own immigrants, gays, dark minorities, women, college students, media, and welfare recipients. That pretty much covers most of America except for white men and nobody cares about them until payday.
I grew up in Northern VA, it is now a cesspool of bureaucrats, liberals and hipsters, which all vote Communist.
VA is like CA, the population centers are all dependent or Liberal and the hinterlands all Conservative.
All dun.
Fund Obamacare with a tax on entertainment.
Sounds like Cuccinelli has the same RINO consultants that McCain and Romeny had.
It wasn't always the case. Remember when anti-ObamaCare warrior Cuccinelli used to come on Mark Levin's show every week? What a downfall.
You can’t fix stupid!
“What is wrong with VA that they would elect an absolute crook like McAuliffe?”
Most everybody living in VA is either a crook or on the government payroll or sucking the government tit in another form.. It just a mater of preserving a way of life... not my or your kinda life but their way none the less.
The ones straight downhill are usually the smoothest.
Women voters
“Cuccinelli only needs to pick up 1.2 points each day between here and the election and he will win the race.
It can be done”
not when he is pretending to be Jeb Bush light
Hope the GOPe is watchin.......lots of RINOs are going down...keep an eye on what happens to the fat RINO gov...
