The tell in this whole poker game over health care is this: the argument for healthcare reform went along the lines that the US spends 17% of GDP on medical care. Other developed nations spend significantly less. We need to bring down the percentage of GDP spent on healthcare.

So we put in place a health care system that by all admissions will elevate the percentage of GDP spent on healthcare to 19.6% around 2020 (source: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Offices of the Actuary— not exactly charter members of the Tea Party).

So whatever just happened, it wasn’t about medical expense cost containment.
