The 21st Century has made government propaganda techniques more obvious even as it becomes more insidious. Case in point: An Associated Press article running tonight highlighting nearly 500,000 applications for Obamacare at federal and state government exchange websites.
The AP article by White House correspondent Julie Pace is based on figures provided to the AP by Obama administration officials to whom the AP granted anonymity. The AP obligingly used the White Houses figures for the headline: AP Sources: 476,000 Obamacare Applications Filed
Obamas press operation took to Twitter to promote the article soon after it was published. Jay Carney, Tara McGuinness and Bobby Whithorne each Tweeted the article.
The article does report that the administration refuses to release the number of people who have actually enrolled in Obamacare thorough the federal exchange, but by leading with the applications number for federal and state enrollments fed it by the White House, the AP makes it appear the administration is starting to see success with the troubled program.
Julie Pace, who did a fawning interview of Obama during the shutdown, gives Obama a pass on responsibility for the disastrous rollout of the program that will be his presidential legacy, saying only that it is an embarrassment for a frustrated Obama:
Obamas advisers say the president has been frustrated by the flawed rollout. During one of his daily health care briefings last week, he told advisers assembled in the Oval Office that the administration had to own up to the fact that there were no excuses for not having the website ready to operate as promised.
The president is expected to address the problems on Monday during a health care event at the White House. Cabinet members and other top administration officials will also be traveling around the country in the coming weeks to encourage sign-ups in areas with the highest population of uninsured people.
The first three weeks of sign-ups have been marred by a cascade of computer problems, which the administration says it is working around the clock to correct. The rough rollout has been a glaring embarrassment for Obama, who invested significant time and political capital in getting the law passed during his first term.
Imagine how the AP would have treated President George W. Bush if three weeks in to the rollout of his signature Medicare Part D prescription drug plan he would not provide the number of people who had actually been able to sign up for the program, not just those who applied. Then imagine Ari Fleischer, Scott McClellan and Dana Perino promoting the article.
You can stop laughing now.
Update: 8 Obama Officials Promoted AP Obamacare Article Fed to AP by White House
Eight Obama officials have been found to have promoted on Twitter the Associated Press article by Julie Pace published Saturday night touting the administration's anonymously fed number to the AP of nearly 500,000 applicants to Obamacare through federal and state exchanges. This effort by eight Obama officials on a Saturday night makes it appear that the Obama administration coordinated with a willing AP to set a positive tone for discussion of the Obamacare rollout on the Sunday talk shows.
To complete theObamacare propaganda circle, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace congratulated discussion panel member Julie Pace on her "scoop" on the number of applicants for Obamacare.
are most of our countrymen and women that stupid to buy into any of the hogwash being “broadcast” these days?
I’d like to think not.. the next year portends an answer or two.. we’ll see
even if the number is true, there’s no way 16 million+ people can enroll by Obama’s now illegal Feb 14th date (he decided to move it up from end of March).
two weeks 500,000 people enroll. lets round to make the math simpler, he gets more credited anyway.
From today October 20, there are roughly EIGHT 2-week periods left until February 14th.
That’s 4 million more people at the current signup rate.
so 4.5 million roughly will sign up before the deadline. 11.5 million will not be signed up yet.
I for one welcome the Overlords from FAIL. This thing is going to take itself down.
Amazing, all the AP reporters had their phones tapped by the Justice Department and they are still carrying the Administration’s water.
They are drinking yet another glass of the kool-aid.
What is that ugly piece of trash around that ugly womans neck.
That thing is absurd.
Is it just tangled up in a knot or was it designed that way.
What is amazing is that the NSA can listen to every American in the country, but Obama cannot get a website that works.
“”Is it just tangled up in a knot or was it designed that way.””
I was thinking the same thing. I’ve spent hours untangling jewelry in my or my daughter’s jewelry boxes and while ours is simply costume jewelry, it all looks the same as that mess around her neck.
500,000 applications - and - the administration refuses to release the number of people who have actually enrolled.
Aren’t these 500,000 asking questions about WHY if they have applied, they are not enrolled? If they weren’t hiding something, an application and enrollment would be the same thing..
Oh no, they have to give all of their personal information JUST to get the application to apply...no one is getting coverage on that site!
