New mom faces ARREST because she took son she's breastfeeding to jury duty when there was no-one else to care for him.
A Missouri woman is to face court this week for bringing her new born child to the courthouse for jury duty because she was breastfeeding. Laura Trickle, of Lees Summit, delivered her daughter Axel in March and was breastfeeding when she was called for jury duty in August. She asked to be exempt from appearing, as she was breastfeeding, but received notice that she must report to court to fullfill her civic obligation and serve jury duty, according to the Kansas City Star.
Trickle was told to either arrange for child care or bring somebody with her who could care for the child during jury selection. On September 3, she appeared for jury duty with her child, but according to the ensuing court order, she willfully and contemptuously appeared for jury service with her child and no one to care for the child. Trickle will now face Jackson County Presiding Judge Marco Roldan on Thursday at a hearing at the Jackson County Courthouse downtown. Those who skip jury duty can be found in contempt of court and ordered to pay a fine of up to $500 and maybe even be arrested. The mother insists she is not a criminal, saying Ive never even had a speeding ticket.

Obama’s fault!
” Women fought and died so
that this woman could have the privilege
of sitting on a jury.”
I hope that part was a joke. Jurists are treated with almost no respect at all, no matter what your life situation. Then the asses wonder why everyone dodges jury duty.
The only people on a jury are the people too stupid to figure out how to get out of jury duty.
Run Martin!
It’s too late for me, Fred the Insane has been unleashed by Cyber upon us!
Aaaaaaaugh!
We breastfed because formula was VERY expensive.
Are you going to cut her a check for the formula?

The thing is, they refuse to get it. They get mad that people fight to get out of it. The damn system thinks should submit to theabuse.
I disagree with the whole jury duty is an obligation nonsense. Show it in the constitution. But even allowing for it as such, why am i obligated to put up with the abuse?
I got out of jury duty when I was breastfeeding. I haven’t been called back since even though my youngest is a teen. The judge didn’t use good judgment. Someone needs to explain to him the meaning of the word judge.
Practical issues like nursing babies are why women were exempt from jury duty from the beginning of time until the 1970s in many states. It might seem odd that feminists at places like the American Civil Liberties Union led the fight to deny women the right to be excused from jury duty because of family responsibilities. But it's consistent with feminist goals, which are Marxist, rather than pro-female or pro-liberty.
The goal of requiring female jury dutyand combat dutyis to break open the family to the claws of the state. It's to make the household a temporary grouping, instead of an autonomous unit that governs itself, and to make every person, including small children, individually subject to state authority. This statist religion requires that no decision be too private to be subject to the review and intervention of the state. And that the state be subject to no one.
In 1981 I got called for jury duty in PA. Sent back the jury form saying I was breatfeeding. Got excused with no problem.
Yes, I was being sarcastic,. I thought the abortion comment would give it away.
My mother refused to register to vote for many years because they drew the jury candidates from the voter rolls.
I agree with you. Serving on a jury really sucks.
Wow.
I've been called a couple of times to the Central Maricopa County court in Phoenix, and my favorite part of the ordeal is when they have a Judge or politician who got called get up and make a speech about how wonderful we are and how much we're appreciated, and not even they are exempted. As if they'd get picked for a trial.
They really, really do hold us peons in utter contempt. Dumb as a box of hammers, we are.
We either do not know the whole story or the judge is (fill in the blank).
Every time I have been called for jury duty I had the option for a one time postponement, and then once I am in the court room one of the first questions the judge asked is if anyone has a reason they will not be able to serve.
I am willing to bet that a mother breast feeding her baby would be dismissed from serving jury duty.
Perhaps her best bet would have been to just ignore the jury summons. I don’t think I have ever heard of anyone ever being arrested for not answering a jury summons, perhaps it happens, but I have never heard of it happening.
Jury duty while breast-feeding bad
Breast-feeding woman good
Ignorant judge bad
“...too stupid...to get out of jury duty.”
I’m retired and I really enjoy jury duty. What does that make me? ;o)
