A new Gallup poll indicates that more Americans than ever recognize the need for a third party to threaten the political monopoly that Democrats and Republicans clearly represent in our country.
According to Gallup, 60% of those polled believe that the United States needs a third party that is the highest percentage of Americans answering in the affirmative since the polling organization began asking the question 10-years ago. The poll also found only a quarter of those surveyed believe the Democrats and Republicans are doing an adequate job at representing them in government.

It would be nice if that 3rd Party would be the communist party, split out of the democrats, but that’s not possible. All democrat office holders are communists.
No need for a third party...we need two parties, as opposed to the single party we have now.
Get the youngsters involved...call this second party “RAP” (Restore America Party)
We need a second party, first.
All 53 of them?
It will take another crisis, of epic proportions to convince people that business as usual is harmful.
Then a third party is born.
In the meantime, party on.
That is what gets left out of these discussions, we have dozens of third parties and always have, last I checked it was around 53 “third parties” as you posted.
The language of this discussion needs to change so that people know what is really being discussed, because “third party” doesn’t mean anything.
Allow me to create a new mantra.
WE NEED A 54TH PARTY!
Might as well secede if another party clap trap gravy train business gets in.
Right now we got puppets.
We already have third parties. People won’t support them.
They may have not yet reached the Jane Fonda moment where they get on the floor and beg that all be communist.
We need the elimination of all parties. Candidates declare what their platform is and we the people choose the best man or woman for the job. This legal duopoly of the “demicans” must stop. Yes, I know that candidates would very shortly after the parties dissolve start to reorganize themselves. But the disruption of the duopoly would create a breath of freedom not felt since 1776.
All the little commie flies know that the DNC is the big commie turd pile, and they like the free food. Notice how when the the Occutards were flopping on the streets, no one was talking about an Occupy Party becoming a viable third party. Keep the flies clinging to the same old rot.
We all know that conservatives aren’t Republicans in the same way that commies are Democrats. Conservatives don’t like it when Republicans go buzzing off to the Democrat swarm, as they often do. When a political movement like the Tea Party springs up, it is natural for conservatives to start thinking about a third party, and the thought of it makes Democrats giddy with joy. They would love nothing more than to see conservatives split off in a third party.
I want my third party TOTALLY right-wing. No more pc “let’s build a tent” bullsh*t.
I agree with post #5 we have one party with two names and all are for sale.
Party like it's 1789.
If you ever want to win, you'd have to change the electoral system to something like proportional representation, and even then you'd have to make coalitions if you want to govern. The "big tent" talk isn't just inviting the other kids over for a play date and making nice -- it's the way parties win elections.
Maybe part of the problem here is that politicians can reject "big tent" rhetoric and sloganeering while doing just that. There was a lot of conflict about "big tent" talk in the Republican conventions of the '80s, but all the while, Reagan was making an appeal to voters who weren't the usual ideological conservatives.
Several times recently, 3rd parties have impacted the result.
—some feels Nader cost Gore the 2000 election. some think Buchanan nearly cost Bush the 2000 election.
—some think Perot cost Bush the 1992 election,
etc.
