Honestly, take a deep breath and relax. Your analogy to Mount Rushmore is totally off base.

What these guys did was on the stupid/careless side. But I’ve seen a lot worse stupidity. Was this formation somehow marked as special or keep off? My guess is no. Given this, I think the public flogging their getting is overkill. Pressing charges is beyond the pale.

In the end, I think their biggest “crime” is looking like a bunch of ignorant buffoons.

What they did is indefensible

from stateparks.utah.gov "Journey to this strange and colorful valley, which is unlike any other in Utah. The landscape, covered with sandstone goblins and formations, is often compared to Mars. Explore the geology, and camp among the nooks and gnomes."

This is a state park because of the formations these idiots just destroyed. Fry there asses.

Mount Rushmore will not last forever. Its stability is questionable, and effort has been expended to track its movement. We could go ahead and destroy it now based on the fact that we don't know how long it will last.

If it isn't yours, don't break it. Why is that concept so hard? If you need a sign telling you not to destroy things in a park, you don't belong there without adult supervision.

Pressing charges is entirely appropriate when a bunch of hoodlums deface public property for their own amusement.
