Cruz: This Wasn't The 'Ted Cruz Shutdown'

Sen. Ted Cruz would do "anything" to stop full implementation of Obamacare, he told ABC News' Jonathan Karl when asked if he would be willing to allow another government shutdown in his fight against the healthcare law.

"I would do anything, and I will continue to do anything I can, to stop the train wreck that is Obamacare," Cruz, R-Texas, said Thursday on ABC's "World News Tonight."

Cruz was unfazed when Karl told him that the 16-day shutdown that ended late Wednesday is seen as "the Ted Cruz shutdown."

"Jon, I agree that a lot of D.C. politicians tried to call it that, and a lot of the media did, too," Cruz said. But the freshman senator said he repeatedly declared he didn't want a shutdown, and repeatedly voted to reopen the government.

Blame, he said, lies with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama for their refusal to negotiate or compromise. Cruz led the effort to tie defunding of Obamacare to the continuing budget resolution.

Republican leadership blasted Cruz, saying that while they agreed with his argument, his tactic wouldn't work. Polls showed the public blamed Democrats, Republicans and Obama for the impasse, but Republicans took the biggest hit, seeing their approval ratings hit a record low.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who along with Reid hammered out the final deal that ended the shutdown took a different view, saying there would be no further shutdowns.

"One of my favorite old Kentucky sayings is there's no education in the second kick of a mule," McConnell told The Hill.

Well Mitch, Senator Cruz will be there for 5 more years at least, giving you mule kicks. Better get right, or get used to it.

And that is why the Tea Party got started throwing Rino's out of office.

Time is on Ted’s side. Its already happening. Reduced hours to part time status. Loss healthcare coverage. Increased premiums. Complete job loss. Companies reducing staff and even closing altogether. The ACA joke of a website with people loosing secure information.

With each passing month, Cruz, Lee, et al. will be saying with regularity “See, I told you so”. Over time, they will not be viewed negatively by the public but rather prophetic criers warning of this train wreck.

That’s right. It wasn’t the Ted Cruz Shut Down. Obama recklessly took us to the brink. So he was more than willing to let us default not matter what. They were in the eleventh hour. Zero wasn’t compromising.

throwing Rino's out of office.

So then what's the story on Cornyn reelection?  Do we vote for him, not vote for him, or we vote for the Dem?  I'm thinking that a President Cruz might have an easier time keeping a Senate minority on his side if Cornyn lost in '14.

If I made 25,000 this year and spent 35,000, borrowing 10,000, then I could probably handle that for one year. Even if I had a 170,000 mortgage, and paid interest only, I’d only be adding about 4500 in payment. Then I’d have all my regular bills, with that interest payment of 4500 cutting into them.

The next year my bills would still total 35,000, even though my income was only 25,000, so I’d have to borrow another 10,000 and my interest would now be 4750. That would cut even more into my ability to pay my bills. (And I’d have to pray hard that the interest rate never went up!)

Then I’d have to deal with the fact that inflation each year degraded my income by about another 2%, so a lot of my bills would go up. And what if I were a business owner and I had this cockamamie scheme of giving my lenders gifts each year to keep my interest rates low, but they were getting tired of it and saw more reward in letting the interest rate rise. I’d be degrading my business, so degrading what produces my income in the first place, and that would eventually turn and bite me, too.

What will happen?

The whole scheme will eventually crumble. About 25 years down the road, my interest payments will equal what I’m spending if the lender doesn’t rebel and let interest rise. Then collapse would be a lot sooner. So, I’d lose my house and all those under my roof being supported would suffer from my bankruptcy.

Just as bad would be that I’m destroying my very business, too. The workers would have no work as they’re eventually laid off. The factories would go still, the fences would rust. Everything would close. No one would produce anything, and someone would eventually start all over, but when? And who would have all that money I’d been giving to someone and do the starting over?

As Obamacare continues to unfold the STRONGER TED CRUZ will look as a LEADER who KNEW what was happening and stepped up on behalf of the American people.

Wait and see. Time will prove him to have been totally right.

The house sets spending levels per the Constitution. It was Obama who said “give me what I want or I will shut down the government. “
