Clerics encourage hungry Syrians to eat dogs and cats

Syria’s civil war has become so dire that some Islamic clerics are telling starving Syrians to eat cats and dogs.
A bad humanitarian situation has turned worse as Syrian President Bashar Assad has escalated a war against rebels, including some with ties to al Qaeda, even as progress has been made on the destruction of the regime’s stockpiles of chemical weapons.

I see nothing wrong with a starving population eating dogs or cats...they do that in China....its better than eating people...

As a Christian I have no problem with eating cats and dogs in such a situation. I thought that eating dogs and cats is Harm in Islam, and if they are willing to let underdressed school girls burn alive in a dormitory rather than have them be seen underdressed on religious principle, why shouldn’t they starve to death on another such principle?
