House Speaker John Boehner just wanted to sneak out of the White House for a smoke.
But President Barack Obama pulled him aside for a grilling. Obama wanted to know why they were in the second day of a government shutdown that the speaker had repeatedly and publicly pledged to avoid.
John, what happened? Obama asked, according to people briefed on the Oct. 2 conversation.
I got overrun, thats what happened, Boehner said.

The Dems had embarrassing information on Gingrich and then his successor Bob Livingston. Is there much doubt they have similar information on Boehner, Graham and McCain? (Well maybe not McCain, he is just nuts.)
Thanks for posting. It’s good to read the official State version of events. Politico continues its proud tradition of serving as Obama’s print mouthpiece. I give the article zero credence.

And who to replace McConnell?
What’s worse than being compared to Obama and found to be a “weak sister”?
Nothing.
Nothing’s worse.
Newt Gingrich
TOM DELAY ALL THE WAY!
How much “retirement bonus” was he offered?
More important than throwing people out is getting the right people in to stiffen their spine and achieve a voting majority in the Senate.
Boehner got “overrun” by people in the House and some senators who care about the Constitution and the survival of the Republic. In the end, though, he got his votes.
I thought what Mark Steyn said yesterday is relevant. He said Obama considers himself the head of a “Presidential Republic” rather than a federal one. He won the election, and that’s the only election that really counts. What he says goes and other opinions simply do not factor in the equation. There are no checks and balances in his mind.
Very dangerous times we live in.
This shutdown was preordained by the Dem budget strategy since a year before Obama was elected.
I have made the point elsewhere on the site that the strategy the Democrats have used and gotten away with over the last seven years of failing to approve or put forward a budget for the budget process has put them in the postition where some sort of CR is required each period regardless.
Our stop-gap has been attachments to the CRs and not an earlier insistance upon following the modern era Congressional Budget process. Once they got past two years of this game, we should have shut down the whole house as soon as we were able and enforced the Budget process.
Instead we find ourselves in a game of brinkmanship to attach one or two little bandaids to a CR we have failed to fight when we should have and are now just flailing about as we watch the country go down the drain. Do we really think that daring Obama to captain the wreck of the federal ship is something he is not wishing for an excuse to execute? That is the whole purpose of their scheme. This is their Briar Patch moment they want us to hold the line.
Cloward-Piven is not that difficult a read.
Paine,
What’s your opinion on the WY race?
I am agnostic on that one. Neither candidate suits me personally nor do I think either would be a disaster so I'll let the good people of Wyoming sort it out.
Loser. That's all he is...
Bullshit! He may have been betrayed. But he did not get overrun. Until they started believing the crap the Democrat media told them, they were winning.
Unfortunately, you need a lot more qualifications than being a firebrand.
Ability to network, ability to work the media, knowing the legislative process etc. are all necessities for the role of Speaker.
