More takers for one-way trip to Mars than for Obamacare ... Is this the worst launch ever?
The Daily Mail Online ^ | October 18, 2013 | DAVID MARTOSKO, U.S. POLITICAL EDITOR

A startup venture recruiting people for a one-way, 43 million mile trip to live on Mars has generated more signatures than all the Obamacare health insurance plans combined.

Just 712 people in Vermont have enrolled in the state's new health insurance exchange, despite $9 million in outreach, advertising and other PR expenses paid for by the federal government.

The entire state of Alaska has yet to register a single person, according to Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

('Juneau how many people have signed up?' asks one cheeky blogger. 'Hint: It's a round number!')

A CNN medical correspondent has found that the online Obamacare system, which was reportedly first tested just days before its Oct. 1 launch, is now spontaneously deleting some Americans' passwords.

The website itself, according to The Weekly Standard, includes pilfered source code but excludes a required copyright notice required by its author.

With $394 million in contracts in the rear-view mirror, the Obama administration has an online white elephant on its hands that hasn't worked as advertised.

Krystal Ball, an MSNBC commentator best known for a series of racy 'naughty Santa' photos that circled the Internet in 2010, confessed on Thursday that she was 'embarrassed to admit' she once worked for the company that created the federal government's Obamacare website.

Is the Affordable Care Act officially the most dysfunctional and disaster-prone launch in history? Congress, which suddenly has time on its hands after weeks of shutdown and debt-Armageddon liars poker, is about to ask some tough questions.

Vermont, with 712 successful Obamacare enrollees as of Thursday, according to WCAX-TV, has another problem to contend with: Its website can accept applications, but it's not capable of collecting any payments.

So ... I guess that makes it 'free'? /s/

I'd bet 0bamacare is causing people to sign up for the one way trip to Mars.

Well, concerning the one way trip to Mars, there’s a better possibility of survival and coming back someday should the mission be successful. Because subsequent launches would be made, and it would no longer be one-way.

If I take the trip to Mars I won’t have to sign up for obamacare. So.....

PelosiCare was supposed to address the millions of Americans who do not have health insurance. Pres(id)ent Obama stood before the nation and said ‘If you like your health plan, you won’t have to change.’

Instead, what has happened is that millions have had their insurance plans cancelled as it doesn’t meet the mandatory requirements that are included in ACA, most notably mandatory maternity care, millions more have had their insurance costs double (again, forced adding of maternity care, and elimination of the differential between insurance for men and women) and millions more who have had their insurance policies dropped by the companies they work for (because again, the mandatory coverage raised rates for so many.)

And for the taxpayers, who already figured that there would be higher taxes on the horizon, they are in for a massive shock when they see the bill for this. Already, nearly a hundred million Americans are on food stamps - every one of those will be enjoying a substantial subsidy for health insurance. With average household incomes hovering around $51,000, a typical subsidy for that income household will be close to $300 a month.

In other words, this is quickly becoming the biggest welfare program in the nation, eclipsing the costs of food stamps and Medicare.

Congrats, liberals, you really know how to break the bank.

Look at the fiasco of just signing up for Obamacare.

Wait until the fiasco of finding a doctor under Obamacare or getting treatment or into the hospital.

Getting the insurance is one thing — Getting medical care with the insurance is something else all together.

All the website does is collect information, verify it and forward it to insurance companies. It is like Travelocity which doesn't actually fly planes or rent hotel rooms, but just forwards the requests to the actual airlines and hotels.

Just imagine the cluster foxtrot if the Obamacare website actually was going to be used for insurance payments or (heaven forbid) medical treatment.

The House should subpoena every private company that was contracted to deliver a piece of this mess. And they should be questioned under oath to explain what their contract deliverable called for and the due dates vs what we now have. And then ask them why they should not be brought up on charges for have allowing this crap sandwich to implemented. I suspect they will all start singing that they told everyone things were not ready but their “customer” ie the Administration demanded that they program and supporting technology be turned on effective October 1st.
(can you imagine how the media howler monkeys would be squealing if this were done by a republican admin......)

How are they going to do it if one gets sick away from their state? Most of those policies have people signed up to a local network. That paperwork is going to be a nightmare. What happens when people move?...new state, new options. What about people who spend a lot of their time in a second (or even third) residences or on vacation? What's going to happen when people can't pay their deductibles, will it create a whole new category of loans that people can't pay back? What about people who stop paying?

I can't see how this turns out well. In fact, I'm thinking it's the end of being able to depend on medical care. Eat heathily, stay in shape, learn about alternative cures, and buy a book about first aid.

But nobody has asked the BIG question:

“How many people who have paid to go to Mars, have *also* enrolled in Obamacare?”

OT, but did anyone notice the name of the MSNBC commentator referred to in the story? Her parents must hate her (or she really should have kept her maiden name if she’s married), but I’m guessing MSNBC must have a pretty good track record of making predictions. :)

Better question is when is Congress going to come up with a special tax on trips to Mars to help fund Obamacare?n

Sounds about right to me, I told people before this mess was ever passed into law that it would in the end mean NO healthcare for any of us. I see no reason to think I was wrong in my estimation.
