The Washington Posts Karen Tumulty is trying to help the Republicans on the front page of Fridays paper. It's not labeled "Analysis," but "Politics Debrief." The alliance between the agreeable GOP and the media is getting more transparent.
What will it take to save the Republicans from the self-destructive impulses of the tea party movement? That the government shutdown was a political disaster for the party that engineered it is widely acknowledged, except by the most ardent tea partyers. Soaking a handkerchief full of crocodile tears, Tumulty insists very bellicose junior conservatives will have to be quashed:
And that near-unanimity presents an opportunity for the establishment to strike back and maybe regain some control from the insurgent wing.
You roll them, advised former Senate majority leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.). I do think we need stronger leadership, and theres got to be some pushback on these guys who think they came here with all the solutions.
Only then, he said, can the party begin to push an agenda and get things done, rather than obstruct.

Don’t be silly. Now that the dust is settling the GOP-e’s own mini-Ministry of Truth is attempting to convince the simple-minded/spin that their half-hearted death-struggle, that just ended in them cravenly suing for peace, was in fact, comrade, a magnificent victory.
It translates... in their pea sized brains— to control of the power. That’s it. Not American values and Constitutional government— just, power, as in which part of the elitists controls the rest of us through taxation and largesse. That is what it has become. Exactly what Alexis De Tocqueville said would happen:
“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.”
“Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
And therein lies the story of Progressives who have no allegiance to the great Nation, only to themselves.
Trent should know how it feels to get rolled
He should also know he is taking sides against the future of his party and siding with the democrat ideologues who rolled him
Peripheral MS ping.
Our lovely establishment ‘Trent’ again.
he11, by that time everyone will be in the TEA (TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY) Party
I understand now why the WaPo has trouble selling newspapers.
I have always had T-party sympathies, but now intend to join and support. Have told the RNC to pound sand and sent donations direct to conservatives for past 2 years. Priebus seems to have gotten part of the message from me and others like, but too little too late.
The old Rinos are covering themselves with the GOP logo like a figleaf and it has as much meaning as a figleaf.
Good grief! McC, Mitt, and Rove are the poster boys for failure. McC is jealous of Cruz's facetime.

He just needs to count his B-I-Law Scruggs tobacco lawsuit money and stay away from politics
Cruz and DeMint are first that cross the mind, but although strong conservatives, they don't have much more experience than Obama. I don't think it is possible to get a good candidate for the POTUS out of Congress - - I believe that good leadership may well come out of ranks of governors, military or industry leaders. (but never, never out of Wall Street).
When “concerned liberals” tell us what is best for the GOP, do the opposite. It’s like Iran telling Israel what would be best for the Jews.
he he he he
Or Obama telling the Israelis what’s good for them; not all Jews are Jewish or Israel’s friends.
Spoken like the progressive drone that he is. trent has no power left in Mississippi and the party base despises him. He should be in jail for selling Federal judgeships. What a disgusting piece of human refuse.
Didn’t even know the bastard was still alive.
:-) Yeah he is a fat cat lobbyist now... you know... he is what he used to rail against. Typical criminal!
