Family and friends of a mentally ill Rylie man want answers after a Dallas police officer shot him for no apparent reason Monday in broad daylight outside his home.
A police report says that Officer Cardan Spencer fired on Bobby Gerald Bennett, 52, after Bennett walked toward him and his partner with a knife raised in an aggressive manner.
But a neighbors video surveillance camera recording obtained by WFAA-TV (Channel 8) shows something different: It shows Bennett, who was seated in a chair, initially rolling back from officers as they advance on him. Bennett then stands up but does not move. His hands remain at his side and he is standing still when Spencer shoots him, firing his service weapon four times. Bennett remained in the intensive care unit of a Dallas hospital Thursday after being shot in the abdomen.
His mother, who had called police to help her son, now wishes she had never done so.
Its heartbreaking, Joyce Jackson said. Its not right. My son did not do anything to those police officers. This is not right what they did.
In a statement Thursday, Police Chief David Brown said that the department was aware of the surveillance video. He also said that investigators are in the very early stages of conducting a thorough criminal investigation of this incident and that once it is completed, their findings would be sent to the Dallas County district attorneys office.

Shot down like a dog.
The one cop is staggering around like he’s drunk.
The cop who cuffed him does kick something away but I couldnt see what it was. Didn’t appear very big though. And the guy certainly wasn’t advancing.
Shot down like a dog.
Not unless the victim has died. Most dogs do not survive encounter with po-po
The cop shot at him 4 times at that distance and only hit him once.
Whoever wrote the report saying that he was advancing towards them in an aggressive manner is in deep doo-doo. This probably happens more often than we think. Cops aren’t used to cameras tracking them so we get to see how they really act.
Give the cop a break- he shot and wounded a house that was advancing on him and his partner in a threatening manner.
How awful. I’m sure that poor mother wishes she had been shot instead.

To bad there in not audio
Typical police marksmanship.
Prayers for the victim and his family and swift justice for that monster that hides behind his badge to commit attempted murder.
This begs the question... How many other people did this man shoot in cold blood?
And how many other arrest affidavits has he and his partner falsified?
Because of political correctness and the abject groveling that is done by city departments before it, the bar of qualification to be an officer has been brought to a sickening low. That is why these types of loose cannons get into large city departments, because standards are now virtually non-existent.
Victim was white and passive, police in battle gear.
Obama’s army.
A come on, its not like the affidavit is a legal document or anything.
If you want to make a bad situation worse...call the police.
