Enrollments in health care plans through Washington state's new health care exchange continue to increase, but it turns out a majority of the enrollees so far won't be paying for their plans.
"The Medicaid newly eligible population accounts for a little more than half of the 25,000 that we've seen," Michael Marchand, with the new Washington Health Care Exchange, tells KIRO Radio's Dave Ross.
A Medicaid expansion under Obamacare raised the income threshold for those eligible.
"So that's the new population that's part of the expansion that the state undertook," says Marchand. "It's quite possible that those people may have never had health insurance in the past and have been able to go to Washington Health Plan Finder and determine that their eligibility actually qualifies them for free insurance."
In addition to the 25,000 enrolled, an additional 37,000 residents have completed online applications that are awaiting payment that is due in December.
The state estimates about 1 million Washington state residents do not have health insurance, or about one in seven people.
Marchand says they've found the bulk of those uninsured will likely get fully-subsidized health care or assistance of some kind.
"We've figured out that probably more than 90 percent of those who are of the 1 million who are currently uninsured, they're going to receive financial help in one way or another, whether it's free or through tax credits."
Washington residents have six months to buy health insurance through the new exchange during the first enrollment period ending in March.
Maybe a brass urn?
Hmmm. Too many subsidized people would prolly collapse the whole thing, huh?
Because of my insurance the doctor that sees my kids is a doctor that takes any insurance. The trick is to go or call first thing in the morning when he opens. Most of the medicaid types do not get up too early.
more in the wagon than pulling the wagon
I shouldn't have laughed but I could not help it.
I doubt if you’ll be able to find a policy equal to what you have now. If the premiums are the same, the deductibles and co-pays won’t be.
There are two types of people who will be insured under obamacare. There will be those who will ransack a Walmart when they think something is free. They never had insurance because they could never afford it so now they’ll get it for free. I’ll call them “Walmart Plunderers”. And there will be those who pay sky high premiums. Part of their premiums will be used to pay for the insurance for the “Walmart Plunderers”.
Cruz tried to warn the people. Unfortunately, the “people” believe the left wing media and they’ll never admit their
O-man’s plan isn’t wonderful. They’ll even pay higher premiums, higher co-pays and higher deductibles and let relatives be sent home to die because obama meant well and at least he showed he cared about us. They’ll BELIEVE this while being herded into the FEMA camps with all of the “Walmart Plunderers”.
And as everyone knows, Medicaid is fully solvent, has plenty of available doctors looking for new patients, and isn’t a fiscal train wreck. Right?
Those are the doctors I see now at the VA.
Kind of like social security.
That's what I'm thinking. And healthy people can help hasten the collapse by refusing to sign up.
Obamacare is a financial nightmare for us.
My insurance is through Cigna, and they are on the obamacare exchange. That means that my absurd premiums with my 7500.00 yearly deductible is subsidizing the obama slackers and is of NO benefit to me except making me poor with the added risk of bankruptcy if I ever get sick.
I still believe a flat out rejection by all those who have to pay will kill it. I don’t believe they can lock everyone up. Even though I know they’d love to.
You're a genius! yes, I've been wondering what these people who "signed up" for OCare were given/promised for signing up. It's just not believable that one state would have 10000 enrolled and other states had none. unless they were bribed or paid off in some way for signing up.
I will be receiving my new “options” soon, and I am quite sure that it will be another absurd increase. I will be done with it at that point.
Dr. Laurie Roth, a radio show host out of Spokane, is calling for people to refuse to sign up for healthcare through the exchanges:
Hell hath no fury as a lard-assed bureaucrat scorned.
“Hmmm. Too many subsidized people would prolly collapse the whole thing, huh?”
No, they’ll squeeze it out of everyone else. That is why the Supreme Court ruled it was a “tax”.
