With every problem, one has to get it to its common denominator to fix the basic problem that’s causing whatever.
In my mind, I could see those stumps buried in the mattress. As an EMT, when we had to give CPR to a patient in bed because we couldn’t get them to the floor for some reason, we put a board under the patient to give us resistance. If we didn’t do that, we are giving compressions into the mattress instead of into the patient.
The stumps are like that so resistance has to be put under the stumps, otherwise, Jim is just pushing them more into the mattress and the more he pushes he is using up his energy for little positive movement.
Jim, getting a bar of some sort as you just said and something solid under the stumps will get you out of that bed.
In order to eat food from Olive Garden, you have to get out of bed. Spaghetti and wine all over your bed is messy to sleep in.
