Come on Jersey do the right thing. Vote Lonegan!
I still don't think he has a chance in NJ, but I hope to be proven wrong!
Voted this morning in Barnegat (Jersey shore) Wasnt busy at all. Mostly retired types at the polling place. Have seen Lonergan signs, no Booker ones.
My pet theory is that the Republican’s rush to cave on the CR and Debt Ceiling deal indicates that Steve Lonegan is going to win this thing. Here is my thinking:
After a Booker win, the Republicans Establishment could cave at their leisure. They could even point to the election of Booker as evidence to the base that the fight is futile. So it would be better to wait until after tonight if they thought Booker was going to win.
However, after a Lonegan win, the base would no longer take “no” for an answer. They would be energized to insist that the Establishment Republicans stick to their guns and get a better deal. So they had to cut a deal today if they thought Lonegan was going to win.
Because, remember, the Establishment Republicans wanted to lose this fight from the git-go. Everything they have done is just posturing to humor their base. At the end of the day, they know that they are our betters, and they know what is best.
“Voting irregularities” already being reported in GOP areas..yeah we all know what that means..let the voter fraud commence
making calls for lonegan as we speak.
not many pickups but it’s fun.
While it’s very likely that Booker will win thanks to machine politics and voting corpses (Frank Lautenberg will be voting for Booker, no doubt), I did point something out to my wife that she hadn’t noticed and thought was interesting when I pointed it out to her. We live in a Democrat town and I’ve seen quite a few Lonegan signs. What’s more interesting, though, is that I haven’t seen any Booker signs. There were Obama signs in 2012 and I’ve seen Democrat Senate and Assembly signs, but no Booker signs. Suggests that maybe suburban Democrats have limited enthusiasm for the guy.
Thank you very much for the thread today
Oh man, what a tense day. Thanks to all the NJ FReepers who made it out and voted. Even though we lost (and not by much), it makes me proud of my state.
The real question now is - will Steve run next year when Gorey Booger’s term is up? Someone has to run, right??
Thanks for the ping, Chris. Just learning the results NOW.
