Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Republicans have a chance to take back the majority in the Senate in 2014 only if the party boldly differentiates itself from Democrats.
“I think 2014 can and should be a very good Republican year and I think if Republicans stand for principle, we’re going to win in 2014," Cruz said in an interview with David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network.
Cruz argued that the 2006, 2008, and 2012 election cycles were "disastrous for Republicans," because in "all three of those cycles Republicans followed the philosophy of keep your head down, don’t rock the boat, don’t stand for anything, don’t take any risks and we’ll just somehow magically win at the polls."
Cruz contrasted those election cycles with 2010, where "Republicans stood strong for principle, we stood against Obamacare, we stood with the American people and we won a tidal wave election."
"Now what do all of the voices of Washington say now? ‘We need to return to the pattern of ’06,’08, and ’12. We need to return to not standing for anything, not risking anything, not rocking the boat,'" Cruz said. "That is a path to losing. The way you win elections is you paint in bold colors not in pale pastels. You stand strong for the American people just like Ronald Reagan did."
Cruz said "that’s the path to victory" and emphasized that "if Republicans do that I think in 2014 Republicans can and should take a majority of the U.S. Senate."
"But if we don’t stand for principle we’re not going to win in November," Cruz said.

The GOP agreeing to a union obamacare exemption will be the parties obituary. It boggles the mind that leadership would agree to that. Total beltway fever insanity.
Agree. And if that’s true I think we will see that, and congress exemption be first and foremost in Cruz et al ‘s 2014 push.
I for one hope they are bold enough to call this out.
He needs to dial back just a bit of his hard edge and add back a touch of the Gipper’s humor.
He is right—more and more I am liking this Ted Cruz.

I strongly support Ted Cruz, and believe he is one of the GOP candidates most highly qualified for President.
I do not agree with him on healthcare, because we have no alternative.
I believe until we have an alternative we need to support what reforms have been made. I realize this is a minority position but I hold it strongly.
Republicans you are the competition.
WHERE IS THE GOP HEALTHCARE PLAN?
The GOP has trotted out a half dozen different alternatives to Obamacare but MSM coverage hasn’t happened.
So long as individuals buy their coverage through third parties of any kind, costs will continue to be up and to the right.
Has the GOP passed any, in the House?

Ted Cruz is the definition of “bold” and may he continue to
be a beacon for conservatives and conservative candidates!

The only GOP ‘plan’ I want is for them all to get the hell out of the way. Let me buy from whom I want, where I want, what I want. I will negotiate my own prices.

I disagree with you on this. I disagree with Sarah Palin on this (never, ever thought I would say that!)
I disagree with Senator Cruz on this.
That said, I am a bedrock American conservative.
The GOP needs to find some policy on insurance which is not chasing every democrat away.
We need to be ATTRACTING voters.
We need an healthcare insurance plan.
Of our own.

Well we seem to disagree on this issue, on which you seem to hold a high degree of view in common with the Conservatives I (otherwise) think the most of.
I am not saying you are wrong.
But I am saying I disagree on this issue.
And on the issue of American jobs. We need to stop sending US jobs to China.
Otherwise we’ll probably agree on most everything.
Reagan often met the press on the campaign trail with a very hard edge and very little humor. During the 1980 campaign the press painted him as certain to start WWIII.
The press also painted Reagan as a dim bulb, or they tried to but failed. A few top reporters and correspondents researched Reagan’s never released writings in his library after his two terms hoping to reveal his shallow command and lack of intellect. Instead they found a giant.
Reagan’s strength was not his humor and not even his principles, although his humor when visible was great and his principles were universal.

The press so many times would attempt to trap him but he would never back down. When they asked him for example why he didn’t support a freeze on nuclear weapons he would counter that he did not want to freeze their production but wanted to reduce their numbers.
Reagan saw all the traps the press would lay before him and with his quick wit and intelligence he would tie the press in knots.
Cruz is cut from the same cloth.
Cruz is a Harvard law grad graduating in the top half of his class but I think he was a debate champion at Princeton. His debate skills were born when he was still a pup in Texas.
It’s a shame we didn’t have Cruz running in 2012.
