Sarah Palin: Barack Obama flirts with impeachment
The Politico ^ | October 14, 2013 | Jose DelReal

President Barack Obama is risking “impeachable” offenses with the way he is handling the debt limit debate, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said in a post on her Facebook page Monday.

“Defaulting on our national debt is an impeachable offense, and any attempt by President Obama to unilaterally raise the debt limit without Congress is also an impeachable offense,” Palin wrote.

In her statement, Palin also accused the president of “scaremongering” on the debt ceiling. She suggested that a default could be averted by paying interest on the debt through daily revenues collected by the United States, an idea that has been recently touted by several conservative voices on the right.

“It’s also shameful to see him scaremongering the markets with his talk of default. There is no way we can default if we follow the Constitution,”(continued)

defaulting on national debt is NOT an impeachable offense. US already defaulted at least once during 1971.

And that President was impeached.

What if the interest payment make up 100% revenue, is defaulting still an impeachable offense then? What you’re really saying is dereliction of duty is impeachable, not defaulting on the debt when its mathematically impossible to pay

Nixon? He wasn’t impeached because he resigned before that happened, but was almost impeached for covering up spying on democrats. Nowadays, Obama commits the same crime but nothing happens to him

Wrong.

He may be impeached. Like Clinton.

But, he would likely remain in office. Like Clinton.

Or, he could resign from threat/action of impeachment. Like Nixon.

I think the Constitution is being misread here. It applies to debt during the civil war. That US debt would be honored and not the Confederate debt

If you really think defaulting national debt is impeachable, why is piling on trillion of debt NOT impeachable? Because one of these days, debt interest will be over 100% revenue and servicing debt is impossible. How could default not be an option?

defaulting is simply fixing a symptom of the problem, not the cause. The cause is piling up those trillions debt in the first place

The Quote of the Decade:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

*************

A liar and manipulator, IMHO. What he means is that my buck, that could have been invested for my grandchildren, winds up in his pocket.

Is it 2016 yet? Can’t come soon enough. If the nation can survive.

Do we want it to “survive” as it sits right now? Trillions wasted on food stamps, welfare, unnecessary wars, WIC, government cheese, Obamacare, section 8, etc., etc.

Just because no one has been impeached for flouting the Constitution doesn't mean it is not an impeachable offense.

How could default not be an option?

You may have a point about the Constitution; I'm not a Constitutional lawyer like Obama (well he says he is one, yeah right). But they all kick the can down the road. Obama is kicking it past 2016. They won't default then because they'll just confiscate all personal wealth to fix it. We'll be like Cuba, all of us will be poor saps.

Defaulting on the national debt is indeed an impeachable offense. As is bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia.

Neither offense matters, however, unless you can get together 67 votes in the Senate.

Ultimately, an impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House and two thirds of the Senate can agree on.

US already defaulted at least once during 1971.

Yeah, that was Dickie Poo, who, to quote something I read on a campus wall at the time, belonged where poo belongs. Bring back the Gold Standard!

Sara Palin - saying what the weanies in the GOP are afraid to say.

Watch her in the future. This lady is going to be a real “player” in the 2014 and 2016 elections.

The House needs to prepare a number of Articles to have in the quiver, ready to fire.

Im all for them wasting their time with that since it keeps them from passing any other legislation while engaged in an impeachment circle jerk. Come on people...they can't even reduce funding to a program named after obama. Do you think they can actually impeach, let alone remove him?
