Thanks for the clarification, x. The creator of the image I posted obviously took some creative license. I’m sorry for having furthered the fiction.

“What I am trying to point out is that today's Democratic party has nothing in common ideologically with the Democratic party of the 19th century.”

The Democrat Slaver Party that has migrated North, South, East and West, has had and still has this evil Slavery mentality in which it has not turned away from before the Civil War. It has changed for the worse - it is worse now than before. We would do better to remind people of the Democrat Slaver Party’s history of not only Slavery, but of their racism, their KKK, their Progressivism to Socialists, their Communism, their hatred for god and Bible, their holocaust of babies, etc. They may now claim that they abhor the likes of the Slavery of old, but in reality they just use different methods for the same means; some more ruthless then that of the 1800’s. The Democrat Slaver Party as a whole is evil and indefensible, the whole being how they were and how they are (worse) today.

“Its reputation as the "progressive" party only dates back to the early 20th century, thanks largely to Woodrow Wilson and later FDR's legacies. You're retrojecting today's political lines to a time when either they didn't apply at all, or when the party lines were in some ways reversed.”

Uh, no. FACT: The modern day socialism/progressivism/communism in the US has its roots in the mid 1800’s. Socialism was even tried by the Puritans, but it didn’t take root, and they then switched to a capitalistic economy. FACT: I do know that even Marx tried to influence the Lincoln administration; how much is the question. I will not justify any influence that may have occurred; but it was not nearly as influential as the socialism of George Fitzhugh during the Antebellum Era.

”When I asked what Democrats in the days of Calhoun or in the days of Cleveland had in common with today's liberal Democrats, you come up with absolutely nothing. The fact that they supported the right to own slaves or segregation has nothing to do with today's Democratic party (since by the 1960's it was the Democrats who were pushing bussing and other forced de-segregation programs), any more than the welfare state socialism of today's Democratic party tells us anything about Democrats in the days of Calhoun or Cleveland.”

The “welfare state socialism of today's Democratic party” IS today’s slavery, - it’s just slavery by another means. This is the correlation of the slavery of old and the slavery of the new Democratic Slaver Party. I can’t help you understand it any more if you do not see this correlation, and how it pertains to what I wrote about the correlation of Jefferson, Cleveland (you didn't mention Calhoun in your last post), Clinton and Obama to this Party. On this we will have to agree to disagree.

The Democrat Party should be abandoned and never be defend and/or justified – past or present. Why would anyone want to defend the Democrat Slavers and their Confederate flag of then and now? And it is their flag.

You know what?

You make a ton of sense. (I don’t see it as totally unrelated, because I think Obama is driving the country to civil war. I also understand that not everyone shares this view.)

I appreciate your point of view.

Thanks

the confederate battle flag was made because of each side being mixed.

This has been explained to you already so why do you persist on making claims which you have been corrected.

You know what , it’s obvious that you have a negative view, with the words you use, the post you make of your view so it is no point going on about this to you..

If you ever get a chance to speak to some Native Americans then they will tell you that the stars and stripes is as bad .

Uh, I have family that are Native American (Apache) and many agree with me. Of course, the ones that do agree with me are Believers (Christianese for those of us that believe in the Bible and the Salvation of our Lord Jesus). Funny how that works, but I find Believers have a way of thinking differently, at least the ones that know their Bible. But I digress

“There were Indians in the north east and then down the east coast before they were killed or removed.”

I’ll repeat what I stated in post 272; I know where some of the American Indians (or Native Americans) come from when they say that the US flag represents the Indian Holocaust to them. There are also others, whom I agree with more, that if it were not the US, it would have been Spain, France or Russia that came in to take over North America; and they would be much worse off. Let’s face it, the American Indians were not a united group; they were often at war with each other and were ripe for any nation to come in and be slaughtered – this was the way of man for centuries. I’m not justifying sinful behavior; but Lord knows the US is one of the few countries (if not the only one) that has repented from this “sin”. But then, it can be argued that conquests may not be sinful either.

I have cousins that are Apache in Mexico that can attest to the deplorable way the Mexican government treats them there; much worse than in the US. In fact, the US treats their indigenous people much better than any country in history – most live tax free and are thriving. This is fine with me; I wish I could live tax free – that is true economic freedom! These whom I agree with, and there are many, realize that man’s history has been about conquering other nations until just recently; and the US was one of the first to change that way of thinking. So the bottom line is; I do not agree with what that most Native Americans believe about this country and would tell them not only the same thing I state above but a few other things as well – with empathy of course.

You might try reading what this particular Native American has to say; he always has a good read (though I don’t agree with him 100% of the time. But then, who does):

“Hopefully you will understand that before you put a battle flag down”

I’m only putting down one.

SIGH

again many you say agree with you many do not, like I said it’s obvious you have a very narrow view so good night and your thread can die as I won’t be replying no more as it’s a waste of time.

I’ll agree that there was no place for this flag , however there is nothing wrong with the flag either.

good night

As both a participant and observer of this thread, it's clear that we probably still aren't going to see eye to eye. Nevertheless, you've been most able in your responses and avoided demeaning those who disagree.

In spite of my sign on date, I well recall the CW/WBTS/WoYA threads of earlier this century. Some of them (especially before the zotting of onetime FReeper Non-Sequitur) went beyond being merely inflammatory and descended into a palpable hatred. If nothing else, this thread has shown that there is a diversity (in the best sense of that word) of opinion here in the forum where some of the keenest minds come for discussion and to occasionally spar.

And, of course, God Bless you too. And thanks.

Wow! Very classy response.

I appreciate your point of view too - your civil war connection is a possibility, but we're not there yet, thank God.

“Uh, no; unlike the Confederate flag, the Bonnie Blue was not created for the Democratic Slaver Party.”

From your link: “On January 9, 1861 the convention of the People of Mississippi adopted an Ordinance of Secession. With this announcement the Bonnie Blue flag was raised over the capitol building in Jackson. Harry McCarthy was so inspired that he wrote a song entitled “The Bonnie Blue Flag” which became the second most popular patriotic song of the Confederacy. The Confederate government did not adopt this flag but the people did and the lone star flags were adopted in some form in five of the southern States that adopted new flags in 1861.”

It makes little difference when you consider that it was the first choice of those same people you’re calling Democratic Slavers, the people of the Confederacy. Raising it over the state house to mark secession also marks it as more than just populist.

"From your link: “On January 9, 1861..."

From the same link: "The first recorded use of the lone star flag dates to 1810." It was born not out of the want of slavery, but for Independence. I'm sorry that you cannot see this, but we are going to have to disagree agreeably on this one.

I can see that it was used first in 1810, and thanks for fuller information than I already had. But what we’re disagreeing on, I think, is the importance of that in relation to its use in Confederate officialdom, and the importance of the distinction you’re (rightly) making. If the same people who loudly denounce use of the Confederate battle flag were to turn their attention to the bonnie blue flag, do you think it would stand their scrutiny and attack, or would those who fly it just switch to another one, rather than stand their ground and push back?
