BOB COSTAS: Think for a moment about the term Redskins and how it truly differs from all the others. Ask yourself what the equivalent would be if directed toward African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians or members of any other ethnic group. When considered that way, Redskins can't possibly honor a heritage or a noble character trait, nor can it possibly be considered a neutral term. It's an insult, a slur, no matter how benign the present day intent. It's fair to say that for a long time now, and certainly in 2013, no offense has been intended. But if you take a step back, isn't it clear to see how offense might legitimately be taken?

The Washington Redskins will officially change their name!
The team spokesman said in a press release that they decided it was time to no longer be associated with something that represents so much oppression, hatred and cruelty.
From now on they will be known as the “Redskins”.

Of course it’s not an insult to actual American Indians. But pointing their boney fingers and screeching “racism” is an important source of attention for liberals. It’s a type of slander that is easy to fabricate and creates a false moral high ground from which they can look down on others. The self-perception of how “good” they are is inversely proportional to how they can paint others.
These people who worry about the Redskins as a sports team name have not thought about the matter much or are extremely stupid or both.
Would any football team name themselves after something they believed to be weak, inferior or derogatory? Indians are used as names because American Indians have a history of being strong warriors. It is a complement to Indians to name a football team after them. I say that as one who is 16% Cherokee and proud of it.
Washington doesn’t deserve the name “Redskins”. It is too good for them. Call them the Washington IOUs or something.
I agree they should change the name.

I recently received an email that said that too many people were offended by the name, “Washington Redskins”. Therefore, the Redskins owner has decided to change the name from the “Washington Redskins” to simply, “Redskins”. ;-)
So...according to libs....Vikings, Buccaneers, Saints, 49ers, Chiefs, Steelers, are bad, too? Or just names that do not infer white folks?
