Franken: Washington impasses distracting lawmakers from critical work

ST. PAUL, Minn. — With just a few days left before the federal government's supply of cash runs dangerously low, Minnesota's U.S. Senators remained in Washington for the weekend.

In a speech on the Senate floor, DFL Sen. Al Franken said the government shutdown and debt ceiling showdown have distracted lawmakers from vital issues such as education and job training.

"Every day that government stays shut down, every day we wake up under the threat of default, every day we spend focused on something that isn't spent working together to create jobs and rebuild the middle class is, in my mind, a tragedy," Franken said.

Congressional Republicans have mostly backed off their demands that the 2010 healthcare law be significantly altered before the government is reopened or the borrowing limit raised. But the two parties are still at an impasse over government spending levels.

I personally wish our government would stop all work. Every time they pass some law, we have another shovel full of dirt tossed on us. Getting hard to breathe.

It almost makes stealing the election not worth it.

Progressive are the champions of the Planned Economy. In Al’s socialist mind, the economy. neigh the society, doesn’t function without the Planner making decisions about outcomes. In Al’s mind, that role needs to be his and those that think like him.

We often forget that socialism is a perversion of the ends of government and only in funding a financial and economic system. It is first and foremost government empowered to do things to bring about chosen end results for social purposes.

If anyone thinks this limousine liberal and guy-who-made-a-lving-from-vulgarity-and-mocking is concerned about regular American families, I have some swampland in Florida to see you for a great price!

Deciding how much to spend and on what is one of the most important job the Congress has isn’t it?

As though a clown like Franken can “create” a job. The only job he’s created is the worthless one he has.

Isn’t he up for re-election?

Who’s running against him — besides some 3rd party wack-jobs.

Weird but I don’t remember the buffoons up on Capitol Hill doing anything about “education” and “jobs training” BEFORE the shutdown and debt ceiling fiasco either. Franken is an idiot.

Once a clown, still a clown. Never very funny, though.

In America, today, even a clown can become a U.S. Senator.

Yeah if they took it seriously. As it stands laws are created to increase their power base or pay back lobbyists. They do nothing but screw up the country.

Good pic!

I just wish it didn't look like one of my favorite TV characters, Dr. Walter Bishop of "Fringe."
