Yes, others have noted.
They must appear to be doing the job, but clearly do not want to be there. They know they look stupid, but they do what they are told to do. All the while worrying that something might pop and game on.
With today's Obameconomy, it is a choice, Jackboot Thugista for $12 an hour plus pension benefits and a neat uniform, or flipping burgers for $7.55/hr wearing a hair net and no pension or health care benefits.

The cops sure did look scared of those old homegrown “terrorists”.

Wild isn't it, 10,000 combat troops, 5,100 law enforcement, a couple of thousand National Guard troops, 13,000 Americans arrested, thousands held in internment camps for days without food or bedding or blankets, or sexual segregation. The FBI interviewing people one by one, offering to release them instantly if they would agree to giving a full personal interview and no one remembers, or at least doesn't remember those kind of details.
It was Mayday demonstrations.
People don't remember the role the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne played in domestic law enforcement during the wild and crazy 1950s during the Eisenhower years.
Here is Mitt Romney's dad in the 1960s. "Elements of the 82nd and 101st U.S. Army Airborne Divisions were mobilized outside of the city. As the situation in Detroit worsened, Romney told Deputy Secretary of Defense Cyrus Vance, "We gotta move, man, we gotta move." Near midnight on July 24, President Johnson authorized thousands of paratroopers to enter Detroit. Johnson went on national television to announce his actions and made seven references to Romney's inability to control the riot using state and local forces. Thousands of arrests took place and the rioting continued until July 27. The final toll was the largest of any American civil disturbance in fifty years: 43 dead, over a thousand injured, 2,500 stores looted, hundreds of homes burned, and some $50 million overall in property damage.
How can those cops justify doing that?
