March 16, 2006 CONGRESSIONAL RECORD—SENATE S2237-2238:

“Mr. OBAMA. Mr. President, I rise today to talk about America’s debt problem.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Over the past 5 years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is ‘‘trillion’’ with a ‘‘T.’’ That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers. And over the next 5 years, between now and 2011, the President’s budget will increase the debt by almost another $3.5 trillion.

Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘‘the buck stops here.’’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit”

A pox on both their houses. All they want the money for is to buy votes...nothing more, nothing less. If the money stops, so does their support. Starve the beast. If financially feasible, retire early (at age 62) and dramatically reduce the money you send to ALL governments. Maximize your deductions to starve the beast. Spend some money to find a CPA that will help you figure out how you either owe $100 or get a $100 refund on April 15. IF YOU ARE RECEIVING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REFUNDS YEAR AFTER YEAR, YOU ARE FEEDING THE BEAST. Always, always, maximize your 401K or IRA contributions even if it means you have.to give up Starbucks or eating out 2 or 3 nights every week. STARVE THE BEAST. All they respond to is money. Polls mean nothing past the moment they are reported. We control the purse!! Make them fear us. They work for us. Cut their pay and their ability to fund anything other than those areas specifically mentioned in the Constitution.

Of course most of us realize that Obama is out to destroy America. If he sees a way to lead the US into default, I feel confident he will take it, not despite of, but because of the very real dangers default would bring to our economy. And so much the better if he can blame it on the “radical Republicans.”

One more thing. Since we opponents of ObamaCare have been labeled as extortionists, terrorists, holding a gun to the head of the government and the American people, and other such demagoguery, why do we not have one Senator with enough courage to document and recite all these ludicrous statements and the read then Senator Obama’s speech word for word and call him out as a lying hypocrite and narcissist with delusions of grandeur bordering on insanity in thinking he and he alone can pick and choose quick laws he will obey. Why do we not have anyone with any monetary means bring lawsuits against him for unconstitutional conduct? We have Senators with no backbone but lots of grandstanders and lemmings.

I don’t know that Obamacare amounts to much in the 2013 budget, so I don’t know that cutting it would save all that much. I’m all for doing away with Medicare, Veteran’s health care, all that socialist health care that has made us the country that spends more than any other in the world on health care, and our life expectancy is about the same as Cuba. What a waste. But I think there would be a lot of PO’d seniors. I say do away with the unfunded prescription drug payments passed under Bush. Let’s go back to a capitalist system where everybody pays for their own health care, and you’ll see medical costs plummet.

You want to do away with social security, too, I guess. I understand that point of view, but I know lots of seniors who would literally starve without it. Also, I don’t know how much doing away with it would help the current budget, since social security if pretty well self-financed.

I don’t know that anyone has laid out a budget that conservatives could rally behind as a prerequisite for raising the debt ceiling, do you? Not that Obama would go for it anyway.
