Before this article, I don't think I've ever heard of "Quad cities" nor of Davenport. The US is a big place, and unless the city in question is one of the top 10, don't assume people know about it.
Not only did they not mention they were black, they showed them respect by saying “six young men” like they were eagle scouts!

You know, as well as I do that the state of journalism in this country is a mess. The writing and reporting skills are almost absent, as well as being willfully biased in NOT reporting some facts. So, unfortunately, the ‘burden’ of filling out the story falls to us to find out.

In this day and age, I am astonished that local newspapers don't identify themselves more clearly on the masthead. The editors apparently don't yet realize that stories get posted nationally and internationally, and read by people who don't have a clue where they are. No wonder they're dying.
It's sad that you think the race of any of the people involved is relevant. They didn't include the race of the attackers because it doesn't matter, the only thing that mattered was an innocent man was attacked and something should be done about it. I applaud the writer for realizing race was not important here.The Left finds it important that the whole "affirmative action"/"anti-hate" infrastructure is left in place. To leave it in place, it's necessary to preserve a sense of good will towards blacks. This good will would evaporate if regular whites discovered the actual extent of black-on-white crime, and the degree to which underclass blacks hate white people (and the degree to which even middle-class blacks dislike whites). "Loving those who hate you" may be an ideal, but it's hard to do for the average person.
To the Left, it is critical that white folk are kept unaware of the actual extent of black-on-white violence.

Looking at the article, their advertisers are mostly local. The purpose of the paper is to get customers for their advertisers, who pay the bills. If you're not local enough to patronize their advertisers, they don't care about you.
There is no race war coming.

Easy, if the 6 men had been white - and the victim black - NBC would have a truck parked at the scene of the crime, the FBI would be interviewing family and friends of the six to see if they were racists - and the Governor of the state would be appointing a special prosecutor.
When it's 6 blacks beating up a white lone white guy it's covered up by the press.
Iowa is no different than any other state: "Everything's great here," say the oligarchs and their newspaper/radio/television toadies, but the local cops and emergency room people have a far clearer picture of how long the shadows are growing. The Quads, Dubuque, CF/W-loo... all of them being well-supplied with lots of young gentlemen of deliberately vague descriptions simply being overly exuberant.

I’m sure that’s true. But it’s not hard to put an identifier in the online version of the paper. You would think they’d do it out of civic boosterism and editorial pride, on the chance that they might occasionally have a story with legs outside a ten mile radius.
You know the one, where in keeping with Political Correctness they separate the eggs in the kitchen and beat only the whites.
