Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Saturday morning is set to brief House Republicans on the status of negotiations with the White House to end the government shutdown and lift the debt ceiling.
Congressional leaders left the Capitol on Friday evening with no agreement to resolve the standoff, just six days before the Treasury Department says the debt ceiling will be reached and warns of an unprecedented U.S. default.....
At the White House, press secretary Jay Carney said Obama had "some concerns" about the GOP's latest proposal, and he signaled Obama would not support a plan that tied only a short-term increase of the debt ceiling to a broader budget negotiations.
Doing so, Carney said, would "put us right back where we are now," creating another potential standoff, this time just before the winter holidays.....
Senate Republicans have reacted coolly to the House GOP proposal, but in a Friday meeting at the White House, Obama did not embrace a competing plan from Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) that would renew government funding and lift the debt ceiling in exchange for a repeal of the medical device tax in the healthcare law......

Dear GOP,
May your chains rest lightly...
"It wouldnt be wise, as some suggest, to just kick the debt ceiling can down the road for a couple months, and flirt with a first-ever intentional default right in the middle of the holiday shopping season," Obama said in his weekly address.
"Because damage to Americas sterling credit rating wouldnt just cause global markets to go haywire; it would become more expensive for everyone in America to borrow money. Students paying for college. Newlyweds buying a home."...............

Hot air and a lot of noise scares no one. Actual actions do.
As I’ve said many, many times over 16 years on this forum “the Republicans don’t represent conservatives, they only represent their own personal enrichment and power.” Consequently, they are sheep who “go along to get along” and freedom and liberty suffer from their personal greed and crony capitalism.
Out of the entire Republican party, we only have a handful of true patriots and conservatives and they are in a constant battle against RINO-E Republicans and the Republican establishment. The last time we sent some pseudo-conservatives to Congress they immediately tucked their tails in and were cowered by the establishment and instantly took off their wolf costume and changed it for sheep costumes.
I’ve harped and preached that a new party was needed because the Republican party was far beyond being fixed and the cancer of moral rot had eaten the heart out of the party.
This is it! Our last chance to preserve our heritage and freedoms will be extinguished within the next few years unless we all pull together and make the Tea Party into a viable and powerful political party before the next elections. With today’s internet and electronic conveyance of information and action, there is no need to wait for many years to build a new functioning party.
Obamacare is slavery and once all are dependent on it, the government will have complete control of us all.
“Because the President refuses to negotiate, we are gong home to talk to or constituents. When the President recognizes that the Congress has the power of the purse and is willing to address the real issue of out of control spending, we’ll return.”
Powwow? It’s a cave-in

Senate cloture vote at noon today is critical. If Reid can get 60 votes to extend DL for 14 months, House will be cooked, burnt toast.
McConnell had damned well better hold 41 of his 46 members, unless Pryor and others go soft on Reid, which is unlikely.
