Well... as long as we keep aborting babies and having wars, then those of us still alive deserve to have long life spans.

If we could have some large scale disaster or event (comet strike) , then the survivors could live forever and not harm the planet.

On a more serious note... the planet doesn’t need saving. It’s been here billions of years and ‘life’ has been wiped out many times in the past. It’s US we need to save, not the planet.

Assuming the planet needs and could be “saved”, living shorter won’t make much difference. Low populations tend to lead to population explosions like after the black death wiping out much of the world.
