SAN DIEGO — Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife, Anne, can move forward with plans to remodel and expand their beachfront La Jolla home, the California Coastal Commission ruled Friday.

By a 7-4 vote, the panel rejected an appeal by Anthony A. Ciani, an architect and former La Jolla resident, who had argued, among other things, that the expansion would be illegal and exceed the size allowed on the 0.41-acre beachfront lot.

Coastal Commission staff had said in their report to the panel that Ciani’s claim was in error. They had recommended the appeal be denied.

The Romneys plan to tear down much of the 3,009-square-foot home, which was built in the 1930s, and remodel it into a two-story 11,062-square-foot mansion with a basement.

The Coastal commission is all powerful, Romney is lucky he won and it took years, and it probably cost a small fortune to finally be able to do his remodel.

Mitt Romney has lived there for a few years and the climate softened him up a bit. Just in time for the 2012 campaign where he could win primaries and beat Republicans by flooding the zone with money which he always had more of that his opponents.

But when it came to going up against Obama he wilted and did not attack him head on. Mitt had gone soft, soft enough to listen to worthless campaign advisers
