The November 2010 testimony of Morales helped convict Ingmar Guandique, the man charged with killing Levy in Washington, D.C.s Rock Creek Park in May 2001. Levys death occurred shortly before she was to return to her familys Modesto, Calif., home, and her disappearance drew national attention following speculation and then revelations that she had been having an affair with then-Rep. Gary Condit. A former cellmate of Guandique, Morales testified that the younger inmate had confessed to him that he had killed Levy. Guandique was sentenced to 60 years following his conviction in 2010 on first-degree murder charges
Guandiques defense attorneys, however, didnt know several important facts about Morales at the time of the trial.

The third important and belatedly discovered fact was that Fresno investigators, following up on information that Morales had provided on unsolved homicides, found evidence contradicting at least part of his claims.
Someone who is willing to lie about one murder to the police is someone you cannot trust about any murder, Anderson said.

Tried to search for old condit mystery threads, but the search feature doesn’t work so I can’t ping those interested. Bummer.
Don’t you find it iiiiiinteresting that this guy who dropped a dime on the strange looking foreigner in the park just HAPPENED to be from the neck of the woods where the body-shaven freak biker wanna be hails from?
9/11/2001 was a joyous day for Joe Scarborough as well.
Where has the old Happiest American on 9/11 been hanging?
Yeah, I remember seeing the dirtbag on the coverage of the memorial. That sicko-freak-perv makes my skin crawl!
That Conditit was a married man while dating Chandra, and a lot of horse play was known to be going going on, where Conditit might have been in some sort of trouble as a result .
No one is ever that lucky to have someone who is a threat to your marriage, and status as an elected official, to have their disappearance be merely a coincidence. It's much too convenient.
As his moniker tells the story Conditit did it.
Nah... most corrupt politicians have very deep ties with the criminal element. They come in handy.
Too bad the terrorists don’t announce their upcoming terror events to congress first so they can plan ahead to have their sex interns killed.
I signed up (finally, after lurking for three years) on Sept 10, 2001 to gripe about that nasty man; no doubt he was involved in MY mind!
It was a very sad story. It was a very important story for the families, loved ones, and local authorities. It was not a national news story that needed to suck up 90% of 24/7 new coverage.
I do have to thank it for getting me to leave MSM tv ‘news’ and go 100% online for news. (I was traveling and fortunately missed the john binet ramsey(sp?) coverage.)
I recall one anchor person (I think it was the one famous from the OJ trial who talks out of the side of her mouth - name escapes me) about to wet herself when they found out that Gary Condit put something in a DC trashcan. It turned out to be nothing.
Makes me think of “House of Cards” and the Kevin Spacey character and the Zoe character. Maybe the writers of that story were partially inspired by this real life episode.
Her apt was packed up for her trip home, and her computer had the map to the park where she was found, and her ID and phone were home. She was supposed to always leave her ID and phone behind when hooking up,with condit. Also damning was the message she left on the answering machine of the one person she had confided in about the affair: her aunt. She asked her to call right back because she had really great news.
Obviously old Condidit sent her to that park. He was completely unaccounted for that afternoon, and the “busy timeline” he had given to, I think Connie Chung, was actually from the previous day. Freepers were closing on on the guy just as Atta was closing in on the WTC.

This was a congressperson possibly involved in murder. It was a national story. And you don’t remember well: condit drove far, far out of his way to drop a McDonald’s bag into a trashcan from the road. Someone saw, and the cops found an expensive watch in the McDonald’s bag. It was so unique that it was traced to the jewelry store in CA where one of his many flings had purchased it.
Was this guy convicted solely on the testimony of this prison snitch?
I thought there had to be some other evidence, making the tie?
Well, if he is the perp, he has been looking over his shoulder every day for more than a decade. There will probably be more of that if he actually does time, and then most certainly after he meets his maker.
Of course, even all that will not be enough to pay for the lives he ruined.
That would be true if the most likely suspect was no one of any significance. Being that Conditit was a US Congressman and her sudden disappearance indicated foul play might be involved circumstances of which changed the entire complexion of the story.
Yes, we know he was connected to the criminal element. Chandra told her aunt that he had given her a card with a phone number on it. He said that if anything ever “happened” to him during their “dates,” to call that number.
Love that show. But Kevin spacey was not as careful as condit was, disguises, no ID, etc.
